Provera did not work, now what?

After going off the Birth Control Pill  (was on it for 3 years) over 2 months ago, I have yet to have my period.  I then went to the doctor and I was put on 10 mg of Provera once a day for 10 days...however that was 20 days ago and nothing has happened--I still have yet to get my period. I had bloodwork done and everything checked out with the hormone levels.   I was a bit underweight (97-99lbs, 5'3") before and am slowly gaining weight as I do want to get pregnant (I am now 102lbs). We have also not been using any birth control/contraceptives. But it doesn't seem that I would be able to become pregnant as being underweight and not getting my period (I did a pregnancy test several times a couple of weeks ago and don't have any symptoms) Is it possible to get pregnant if I am still underweight and not getting my period?  Why wouldn't the Provera work?
I have another appointment with my doctor but it isn't until early May...so I am concerned and very worried.

I just went on Provera for the second time this year hoping to induce a period, I starting a period but it's not near as heavy as the first time i went on Provera. Is this normal? The doctor is wanting to do blood work on the 3rd day of my period to test if my ovaries are functioning properly (I don't think they are). I experience severe pain on my right side of my stomach in the location of my right ovary. I've had exploratory surgery and have had at least 5 ultra sounds, 4 doctors and every doctor has a different answers and none of them know what the problem is. This has been ongoing for almost 3 years. Any advice?

Hi, I am 28 years old, and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14 yrs old.  I started birth control once diagnosed and got my period each month like clockwork.  I went off the pill in November b/c my husband and I wanted to try to get pregnant, but I have not had a period since.  I spoke to my dr. and he put me on provera 10mg for five days, i spotted, but that was it, he then suggested I do 10 days of provera this time nothing. I am too very worried, and it is a little comforting that this does not seem to be uncommon.  My dr recently put me on another pill, this one has estrogen.  I am to tkae this with the provera and hope that this will bring a period.  Today was day one of the pill, I am expected to get my period beween day 28-30. I am hoping this works, if not he suggested i go to an endocrine dr.  I had bloodwork in Dec to test my harmones and everything was OK, so We'll see

I went off bcp and got breakthough bleeding and then a normal period and then no period for three months, the none for two months, then skipped one month. Not to downplay anything your doctor said, but perhaps your body is still regulating to going off bcp's? Good luck!

Hi myname is Chelsea. I am an older teen, 19 and I have no received my period for about 6 months now. My dad was concerned and had his doctor friend (with his advice) put me on provera, which i took and still have no receieved my period. I know he said I might have to try to it twice so maybe i will refil it, but how long do I have to wait to take it again? Also, I really don't know why I am not getting my menstral cycle. I have lost weight over these past few months and maybe working out a little bit more than usual but I wouldnt say I am unhealthy..

Hi,
I have PCOS and was also put of provera to induce a period (have not had a period in over 9 months) I am slim but I am not underweight. It has now been 9 days since my last provera tablet and I still have no period!
Does anyone know why provera wouldnt work???? I was supposed to start Clomid on day 3 of my cycle but it never came :(

I bet my doc will put me back on the pill to induce a period but that will result in everything happening right around xmas which makes it really hard to go to any of my appointments for my HSG scan and ultrasound to see if im ovulating bc DH and I will be going to Sydney for 2 weeks :( HELP

Hi, I just tried Provera and it did not work. My doctor ordered blood tests: HCG, FSH and Estradiol levels.  We'll see what happens next.

Hello.  How did your situation turn out?  I am having the same problems as you--no period for over a year and provera did not work.  Now the doctor wants me to do repronex and ovridel injections.
Thanks for your help,
Leah

Thanks for the advice...I will look into it. I just didn't think it was that serious, since the nurse practioner who prescribed the Provera for me said I should see the doctor and she knew he is unavailble for awhile.  Hopefully I will be able to resolve this soon.

Is there a clinic or a Planned Parenthood agency near where
you live?  Maybe the clinic or Planned Parenthood can get you
seen earlier.  Just a thought.

Thank you! I tried to get into my doctor earlier (OB/GYN) unfortunatley, that is the earliest. I even tried switching doctors as well. And since I already saw the Nurse Practioner and the Provera did not work she wants me to see the doctor--and it seems getting into them are quite difficult everywhere.  My only hope is to get in with a cancellation. Otherwise, I guess I have to sit tight and try to gain those extra 5 or so pounds.
She did say that maybe I don't have enough estrogen in my body and that could be the problem...but I don't know if that is the problem--are there symptoms of this? Or is it just going of the birth control pill that is causing me the main problem?
Unless it is too early to use the hpt (still not using any contraceptives), but since I don't know what my regular cycle is I don't know when I have missed my period...

You really should try to get into the doc's office before May.  That's too long to wait.  You need to discuss both the ineffective Provera and your weight.  He would be able to tell you if you should quit exercising altogether.  I don't think you should have to completely stop but only he would know what is best for you.

I would think the doctor would get you in much much sooner given what's happening with you.  You might want to consider switching doctors if they refuse to see you sooner.  I know my doc would be able to see me within 1 week if I had these concerns.

Good luck and I hope you get your answers soon!

Well I did a hpt this morning and it was negative. So there must be something really wrong.  I am just hoping that now that I am not so sick to my stomach because of my job (and the stress from it) I will be able to gain 5 more pounds to be in my range for my height of 5'3" and everything will get back to normal by the time my doctor's appointment finally comes around in early May.  However, being a very active person who enjoys working out a regular basis, I have scaled this down as well but am wondering should I stop working out all together in order to gain that extra weight faster? Or how much should I work out per week to stay healthy? (because I do enjoy it!)

Since provera didn't work you should talk to your doctor and take another hpt now.  You might be pg if the provera did not start your period for you.

Well I was actually underweight due to the stress of my job and not being able to hold food down. I definetley am not anorexic as I do eat 3 meals plus a snack and dessert every day. Now that i have moved onto different work responsibilities I am slowly gaining weight...and not sure how much I need to gain for everything to work normal again?  It has been since December.  And it just worries me that the Provera didn't work...

If you are underweight due to anorexia then you more than likely arent going to get pregnant until you are at a healthy weight. you BMI has to be in normal range to O. now, let me say that anything is possible, but the odds are againist you. you need to take care of yourself first then the rest will fall into place.
