Question about estimating fetal age

Here is my situation in a nutshell as short as I can make it.

I had a D/C on 8/11.
HCG test on 9/1 was less that 2.0
+ pregnancy blood test on 9/22 with hcg level of 2995.

The dr's estimate me being 4-5 weeks on 9/22 but my last bleed which was my d and c was on 8/11 which I bleed for 7 days.

Do I go by my dr or the calendar?

I am confused. not sure even what day I ovulated. The orginally told me 6-8 weeks for my period so does that mean I o'd later?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations...what perfect timing for someone who has so recently suffered a loss! This baby may be just what the dr ordered LOL!!!

I think the previous poster is probably right, wait until your dr performs an u/s to get a more accurate pregnancy date and EDD. You may never know when you ovulated - it will probably only be a guess at most even when given a gestational age. But I think this certainly gives much hope to many women who have recently had a m/c and are hoping to fall pg almost immediately! Well done!

how long after having a m/c (natural) would someone start to ovulate? I had a m/c on sept 11th, should I have ovulated yet?

First, congratulations on your pregnancy!!!  Second, your dr. will give you a more accurate due date after he performs an u/s, which will be based on development.  In the meantime, relax...your numbers look good too!

I don't think either set of numbers is that far off the other.  Pregnancy is computed by doctors as beginning at the first day of your last menstrual cycle, not as beginning at ovulation or the moment of conception.  (Because the latter two dates are impossible to know, but knowing what day you began to bleed most recently is obvious.)  So if a doc tells you "you are six weeks pregnant," he is saying you are six weeks from your prior period's first day, and presumably around 4 weeks from when you last ovulated, and you are pregnant.  If he told you on September 22 that you are 4 or 5 weeks pregnant, he's saying you are about 2 or 3 weeks from when you ovulated.  For simplicity's sake, let's say ovulation was September 1.  Allow for about five day's delay in getting your period because of the D&C, and that would be about right according to your calendar too.  If you decide you might have ovulated around September 7, this would suggest a delay of only about a week and a half in your uterus getting its endometrium together after the D&C, which is normal.  I'd trust the doctor's estimate.
