Thanks everyone who have answered to help me clear my confusion.I can let out a breath of relief!Though I was expecting to hear you say I was not normal! So according to you it is normal that my vagina looks like a less than 1 cm hole in its relaxed, unstretched state. My due date is in November.I am trying to prepare myself mentally for the D day!with the pain, contractions, episiotomy etc!But damn it I'm terrified!Anyway thanks for your kind advices.
I know it doesn't seem possible.. but it is! ha ha ha! That big ol' head will fit thru that little hole!
I delivered a ten lb baby, next an eleven lb baby, believe they'll fit through there. HAVE THE EPIDURAL!!!!
Yes, it is a miracle that we can fit a 9lb baby through that small opening. I'll drink to that!
Your vaginal opening itself will stretch to accommodate the baby, and you will likely have an episiotomy. You can use google to research that term if you need to.
The cervix is what is inside your vagina, that separates the uterus from the vagina. That very very tight muscle will stretch open (dilate) to 10 cm before you start pushing.
Your hips do separate also, I've heard it can be up to as much as 20%, to also accomodate the baby.
All of this stretching is what causes labor/birth to be so painful. If you have an epidural, as I did, you won't feel a lot of this. Hope this helps!
Its amazing how the human body works, in particular a woman's during child birth. Attend antenatal classes through your doctor or midwives clinic. Ive given birth 4 times all vaginally 1 with an epidural. Child birth is a different experience for everyone, the best advice I can offer you is to educate yourself. When you understand how yur body works during birthing and why things happen as they do you will be more mentally prepared and cope better with it. There are plenty of good books and dvds you can seek expert advice from. Episiotomy can be avoided if you have a skilled doctor/midwife delivering your baby. Many women recommend epidurals, just know that not all epidurals give complete pain coverage, there can often be a window, also know that most times with epidurals suction caps and faucett clamps are used to assist in the delivery ... this is what can cause a episiotomy to be nessesary. You might want to do some vaginal stretching excersises during your pregancy ... it does help. Good Luck and remember women have been doing this for ever .. you will be fine. Good luck!
I have never given birth but during child birth the hips seperate and you will dilate to 10cms.
