Red/purple patch on breast for two weeks

Hello,

Two weeks ago, I noticed a pea sized (or a little wider) purple-red patch on my right breast, near the nipple. Three days later (two weeks ago this Friday) I saw my gyne for something unrelated. I showed her the patch and she thought it was a pimple and even tried to squeeze the edge of it. I think she got something solid and white out if it, not sure if was from that or a nearby pimple. It has been a week and a half since I saw the gyne and it has not gone away. In fact, it has spread a bit. The outer part is lighter than the inner part. I also have some very faint, smaller patches next to it.

My gyne said if it got worse to call right away or if it did not go away in two weeks to call. Even though she thought it may be a pimple, she said looks can be deceiving.

My question to you all is: should I call now or wait till Friday? I don't know how to tell if it is getting worse. This is the first time I have experienced something like this. I also don't know if she meant wait two weeks from when I first spotted it or two weeks from my last appt.

The patch is not raised and I have no lump. It looks sort of like a bruise or bug bite. Only, it is winter and I have not been around any bugs and I have not hurt the area.

I am 36 and have no kids; had a hysterectomy in 2012 and therefore cannot be pregnant or breast feeding.

Thank you,

K

I would call right away and go in as soon as you can.  I would try an antibiotic cream in the meantime.  This could be a little infection, but unfortunately it could be inflammatory breast cancer.  These move fast, so you don't want to wait.  I hope it's just a little skin infection but better safe than sorry.  If the pores get prominent like the skin of an orange, that is not a good sign.

Thank you again. The tests were negative. My next step is to see the skin doctor in March. Meanwhile, I will keep an eye on the area.

Some inflammatory breast cancer can be detected by mammogram, but not all.  So if the mammogram and ultrasound are clear, monitor the skin and make sure it resolves.

I hope it is just a skin issue.  That is very common.

Hi and thank you. I called and got in today. She said she thought it was skin related and not breast related. However, she ordered a diagnostic mammogram with ultrasound "just in case." I go in Monday afternoon and will get the results then and there.

Thanks again!
