Is that your only option? I too was told I needed spinal replacement therapy and I chose not to do it at the time. I am now 5 years down the road and have improved, so I will wait on it and hope they iron out some of the problems and risks in the meantime. They have made a lot of progress in the last few years.
What is your situation? Maybe if I had more info I could help you research your options.
Sorry you are going through this, I know what a challenge it is.

Thanks for the response. Its my mum, in about 1998 she practically couldn't walk, she had pushed through her injury for years and eventually it got too bad. She saw a number of specialists and they decided to operate. Back then she was the 92 person to have these discs but they assured her that they had extensive research and they were fantastic. Her surgeon is know world wide Mr E R Ross. He has treated her up to now and he is fantastic(she needs upper spine work now). To cut a long story short she was able to walk well after. She gradually got worse than she was at the start, spasms in her legs and feet, dropping foot, agony all the time. 3yrs ago he informed her that he thought there may be a problem and performed scans etc. He confirmed that her 2 tier discs had snapped inside her and the wires were sticking out, not only that but to correct it means a life threatening operation (she has a scar the entire height of her stomach from the first time) they claim that the body gets'attached' to the discs. I just wondered if this problem was common? she now has been diagnosed with Lupus, arthritis(don't think these are related at all), has a neck brace and a walking stickdue to back, has higher level disability and care(she is only 48) she is in turmoil and doesn't know what decision to make.
