I am unaware of the reason for your hysterectomy, but if you need to have it make sure that the doctor takes your cervix.  I had a partial with my doctor leaving one ovary(the other had to come out) and he also left my cervix.  Since my surgery(in Nov) I am still having a period every month.  From all the info left by ladies on this forum I am under the impression that leaving my cervix with some of the uterus tissue on top of it is the reason why.  So if you do not get a partial with leaving your ovaries make sure the doctor takes your cervix also.  Do not be afraid of being hacked.  My doctor did a very good job.  3 small incisions less that a inch in size and my recovery was about 2 weeks, with up to 6 weeks of taking it easy and not lifting too much.  From stories I had heard, I was very shocked that I didn't hurt all that much.  I did experience gas in the hospital but mine was not the kind I could pass.  They gave me some gas medicine which helped a lot.  If you decide to have it done I recommend lapriscoptic.

I'm sorry you have to go through what your going through, but not all hysterectomies are butchered. I agree you do need a great surgeon, but didnt you think yours was? it's not like you found him in a dark alley.

Be afraid. I HAVE had a hysterectomy. If I had it to do over I would NEVER let an uncaring and unskilled doctor hack me open and leave me maimed and mutilated. I have spent the last 2 years in HELL because my incision is VERY misplaced, no assistant surgeon present so retractor was misused, traumatizing and overstretching my abdomen resulting in severe nerve damage. My vagina was hacked off so short sex is no longer an option for me. I will never recover from the brutal and unecessary surgery. My advise is to get a REPUTABLE SURGEON, WITH A DEFINITE diagnosis and insist upon vaginal or lap assisted to avoid triple the pain, hospital stay, time off work and avoid the physical deformity you may very well be stuck with. LIFE SCORES are tremendously lower for TAH and NO LONGER THE RECOMMENDED ROUTE vs. TVH and LAVH. (No doctor will tell you that a huge percentage of women who submit to abdominal hysterectomys end up with an unsightly bulge under the incision that only cosmetic surgery can fix.) Absurd as it is the pfannenstiel incision is used by plastic surgeons to fix tummys but is notorious for leaving women with a huge bulge when the average doctor performs the surgery with less than excellent skills. I am filing for bankruptcy and divorce because of my hysterectomy and suffer everyday.(fibromyalgia) Don't make the same mistake I did. I was afraid to ask questions, was given a bogus diagnosis, never examined, nor informed of any of the risks or complications of surgery. I haven't even scratched the surface of Good Luck, you will need it.

I haven't had one personally, but my mom has and she thanks God every day that she had one, she feels so fantastic.  I know that they did fill her abdomen with air (I don't know why) and that led to some discomfort after the surgery and lots of gas (out of her bottom).  She had her surgery 10 years ago and a couple of her friends who have had it recently say it's not nearly as invasive as it used to be.  Speedy recovery!

Maybe you can sign up for a free hotmail account so that you can join http://www.hystersisters.com/

I don't know anything about the site personally, but I do know that if one email address doesn't work for something, I've signed up for another free email address like hotmail.com  (It only takes about a minute or so to do) and then you have it for anytime you can't use Yahoo for whatever reason.

Just a thought.  Good luck.

I have not had a hysterectomy.  I do know that many women have mentioned http://www.hystersisters.com/ as good place to go for information on the procedure as well as preparation and aftercare.

Good luck to you.
