i use clorox clean up. it is a bleach spray.just make sure you rinse it good and if you have a fan in your bathroom turn it on and also open a window if you have one. i have been using that for a long time and my boys are 5 and 2

Hot soapy water, then rinse well.  Or throw into the dishwasher if they are that type of toy.

That's funny.  I realized after I wrote that, that I can't even remember the last time I bought bleach.  I hate the smell.  Maybe stick to soap and water. :)

I also was a pre-school teacher, and we used bleach and water, however, i am so uneasy using that on my own child...lol

I've worked in early childhood ed for years, in 3 different states.  Each place requires a bleach and water solution for surfaces and toys.  It's 1 teaspoon of bleach to 1 quart of water.  It doesn't seem like enough to do any good, but it's what the health departments require.  Also, b/c it's so diluted it's not a toxic level.  Of course, you still want to keep it out of reach, but you don't have to panic if it somehow gets on them.  Just fill a spray bottle with it and spray your child's toys down then let them air dry.  I also agreee with the other posts that soap and warm water is an easy solution, it just won't kill as many germs.

hot soapy water is probably the safest like the other poster said. i used to fill the sink water with dreft detergent and let them soak a while.
