Secondary Ammenorea

My wife (25) was on Depo-provera for 4 years.  We mulled over the symptoms a long time before she chose to start it.  We stopped as we decided we would like to have children.  Unfortunately it has been 1 year 5 months since her last injection and she still has not regained her period.

We have been unable to have sex for hmm, well 2 years due to vaginal dryness and she has the "empty" sort of feeling inside of no sex drive.

Family doc has done the following, progesterone challenge test (failed) LH, FSH testing all near zero and estrogen near zero too.

Following the literature it says pituatary problems, and try HRT.  Is there any chance of her regaining her natural cycle again?  My research shows this is a real problem with long term depo users but her doctor refuses to aknowledge this happens to others.

Her main concern is she will never bear children.  I'm pretty sure they can chemically stimulate her body to go through the motions if needed as her FSH levels are near 0 so she should have plenty of eggs left.

You might want to consider consulting a reproductive endocrinologist for furthur workup.  There are several conditions that may be causing this.  So looking furthur for wxpert medical advice would be the best course of action.

I was also on Depo but only for 2 shots and had many symptoms and problems.  Directly after going off Depo I went on BCP's for a year before we decide to TTC it was exactly 18 months from the last Depo. Although the BCP's were out of my system the Dr thought that I still has some of the Depo in there since I wont having normal periods, well any periods at all.  He started me on Provera in Dec 05 and then again in Jan 06.  I am not pregnant.  But then again I wont on Depo that long either....it can stay in your system from 12-18 months sometimes longer.  I would suggest finding a different Dr, one that will listen to whats going on.  If shes not having periods then shes not ovulating....and maybe a new Dr could find out why theres no periods. Sorry I couldnt be much help, I wish you the best of luck!
