Sexual positions for hopes of concieving a boy or girl

I know it sounds silly but my DH and I are getting ready to do the BD.  And a co worker, Male might I add.  Told me that if you do it a certain way that it might increace your chances of having one or the other.  I know that only the sperm can determaine the sex of the baby.  Don't get me wrong.  I am NOT that nieve.  I was just wondering if any of you ladies get into this and if it work for any of you?  I was hoping you might help me find a website that talks about this.  So that I may research it.  Thanks a bunch ladies.  Kristine

Glow has nothing to do with sex of the baby , I was pregnant with a baby girl , and I looked so ugly if I could use a better word !!!!

It works!!  I tried it... it's called something else as well as the Shettles method... anyway, I BD on days 3 and 1 before I ovulated, missionary position and we got a girl like we had hoped.

Of course, I'd need to try to have another baby to see if it worked, since you have a 50/50 chance every time, you can't prove the theory unless you do it twice! LOL

(and you have to be 100% sure of your luteal phase and your exact cycle... I'm on a 26 day, I tracked it for 6 months before we even tried)

With apology if this offends anybody, it's all a crock.  Both science and common sense dictate no effect of sexual position on the baby's sex.

I had to get a klenex.  I did not laugh this hard today until I got home from work and got on here to see what you ladies had to say.  I looked like the Dogs A**  When I was PG with my son.....I went to las Vegas to get married in March and from that point on I retained water until my son was two months old.  I still have funny looking legs to this point.  My son is three and a half now.  lol girls.  You GO!  Thank you for your comments.  Don't you just love these kind of Questions that just get you going!

Yeah, I know it is shettle's : ) It is a crock! I tried shettles and it never worked, and I agree with the boy=glow comment. I never looked worse than when I was pg with my youngest boy.

A few studies support shettles, but more seem to discount it. Too bad, it would be nice if it worked.

I think the opportunity for the glow has already passed me by....I'm almost 29 weeks, so either it's come and gone without me noticing or it's taking it's sweet a** time.  Keep your fingers crossed.  Have a great weekend!!

I wish I knew what you were talking about when you said "Mother's who carry boys have that wonderful pg glow" because I'm carrying a boy and I look like ****!  I have tons of acne and my face is really bloated and big.  No glow here, just oily skin.  Someone once told me that it's the boy hormone in your system that gives you the pregnancy acne, which mine has gotten worse.  I wish what you said was true for me at least :)

Secretly I wanted a girl and secretly I believe my husband wanted a boy, but of course we both said, "whatever God gives us as long as it is healthy." We tried for the whole week I was ovulating just to try and "hit" (no pun intended) the right day. I know that there are more "girl" sperm than "boy" sperm. So if you make a lot of love deposits consecutively it seems like you would have a better chance of having a girl b/c they also survive the longest in your body. And "girl" sperm are known to be much better "swimmers"!! We had a GIRL!! (Plus I secretly pray for a girl, LOL) We did not find out what we were having. I knew in my heart it was a girl so when she came out it was no surprise when they said, "It's a GIRL!!" Plus I looked like **** the whole time I was pg!! I think the girls take all your pg glow for themselves and leave you out to dry!!LOL and mothers carrying boys always have that beautiful pg glow!! I don't really believe there are "particular" ways you can insure the gender. IT IS ALL UP TO GOD!!!!!

It's called the Shettles method, google it and you'll find lots of information about it.  It basically says that the y sperm are very fast but don't live very long whereas the x sperm live longer but are slower.  So, the theory goes that if you have sex 2-3 days before you ovulate, the y sperm get there too fast and don't live long enough to fertilize the egg and the x sperm get there at the same time as the egg and successfully fertilize to make a girl.  If you have sex the day before, of, or day after you ovulate, this gives the y sperm the advantage.  Actually, if done exactly (which is hard anyway), it has a pretty good success rate.  We didn't plan it, but we had sex the day of my ovulation and got a boy like it said we should.  Also, there's another theory that says certain ph's are favorable for different x and y sperm, but I don't remember which is which.  I want to say more acidic ph's favor the x sperm and alkaline are better for y, but don't quote me on that.  There are different types of food that you can eat that will change the ph of your discharge, but google it too to find out more.  As for positions, there aren't any that favor genders but there are positions that favor pregnancy since the sperm is deposited closer to the cervix in some positions rather than others, but the positions have nothing to do with the favorability certain types of sperm.  HTH

There aren't any sexual positions used to conceive a particular gender. Some doc's thing timing has something to do with it, others think it is a matter of luck.

Doggy style within 12 hours of ovulation is said to give you a boy. And for a girl is before/after the 24 hour window of ovulation missionary style.
It's the old wives tale anyway. :-)
You'll hear ALL SORTS of old wives tales.. It's like playing telephone, alot of different stories.
You can look them up on the internet though, there's alot of websights with fun games and things to try out.
Hope that helps
