Short period while taking birth control pills

by sugarchau, Nov 26, 2007 08:41AM
I have been on bcp's for the last four months and they have succeeded in lightening my period flow and pain significantly. This month my period has lasted for only two days and came on day later than expected.(it usually lasts five days and comes two days after i stop taking my pills). Is this normal? Or should i check for pregnancy?

Well I have been on birth control pills since July 2007 and yes my periods are alot shorter then what they use to be. However, when I'm on the non-active pill week my period comes on the 6th white pill and normally lasts about 4 days. My last 2 periods have been a bit odd though. My period always starts on a Saturday, but last month it was very ligh bleeding on day 1 (which isn't normal) and it lasted a day longer. This month (I have now) Saturday I only had brown when I wiped, Sunday I started bleeding on the pad, but then it stopped and was only pink/brown when I wiped, and today it seems to be flowing now. So I guess my body still has to get use to it.

But back to you, I would say your ok. If you take the pill correctly, you will be protected against pregnancy. Good Luck.

Just to be safe - check for pregnancy.  However, I am on bcp and my period will come between 2 to 3 days after my last pill.  Sometimes it will come a day earlier than expected or a day later than expected.  Speaking from experience - it may only last 2-3 days.  Mine seems to be light for 2-3 days and taper off - nothing for a day, then one more day and it's done.  I know it's weird, but that's how my body reacts to the pill.  Has done that for almost 7 years now....

Also, the pill protects against pregnancy, however I was told by a doctor to allow up to 3 months for the pill to take full effect.  Remember that you can get pregnant on the pill (as many women on this site have).  If possible always use a second form of bc.
