Side affects after getting of depo

I have recently gotten off the depo shot. I started it May of 2003 and was suppose to receive it again on Oct 5, 2006. I didn't go back for it because it was recommended that you don't stay on depo for over 2-3 years because of new studies with bone density. I didn't get on anything else because I wanted my body to take a break from hormones for a while. As of Oct 15th or so I've been bleeding constantly. It isn't heavy, but it's consistent. I also have tender breast and have been feeling sick after a eat. My question I"m am wondering about is first off is the bleeding right after I got off the shot normal? I've been reading that it takes a few months to get your period back and mines came back not even a month after I stopped the shot. Also is it possible to get pregnant that fast after getting off depo or are these just normal side affects?

I only had one injection in December 2012 to stop my period because I was/am anemic.  Well I bled from January to March and now I am bleeding for the last 13 days.  Not to mention the dizzy spells, heart palpitations, upset stomach. feelings of electrical shocks going through my system, extreme sensitivity to light and sound and pains around my body.  I didn't experience any of these before the shot.

When I got off depo it took awhile for my body to regulate its self back to what was normal.  If you read this link on this site:

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Womens-Health/Getting-off-of-Depo-Provera-after-11-years---need-advice/show/26541

A lot of people have posted on there about getting off depo and the symptoms they had which you seem to share.  I was reading on there that it can take up to 18 months for depo to completely clear your system.  It really depends I think on how long you were on it.  I know it took me 6 years to get pregnant after being on it myself.

Having symptoms of being pregnant on depo is normally. At the end of the three month period, a few weeks before I had to get my next shot I got every pregnancy symptom in the book. My doctor said it was bc of all the hormones tricking your body into thinking its pregnant. I was on depo a little over a year and got off of it in august. I've barely had any period except for this month. I would have a period every month but it would be very light pink or brown. Now it seems like this month my bodys repaying me for all the months I didn't have a period. This month is awful. I have terrible cramps and the bleeding is the worst at night! It's been like this for a few days and I'm hoping it stops ASAP.

I've been on the deposit shot since April 1,2011 and when October came the symptoms of feeling pregnant came. November 18 I decided not to get another injection cause of the hormones and headaches.I spotted for 2 weeks and then nothing after.then 3 days later,a light pink discharge that only happen after I wake up
I've been very sleep, and my stomach pains.I only gain 8 pounds the whole time over been on the shot. And before November 18 I only had sex 3 times with my bf. The months of October and November I have been having dreams about babies. Its weird cause the only time dreams about babies is when I was pregnant with my other two kids.

I have been contemplating getting off the depo shot (I've been on it since April 2007) and now after reading all these things I'm scared to get off it, and not wanting to stick with it either! Ohhhh man. I hope that none of this stuff happens to me. :(

I to was on Depo for almost 3 yrs...When my husband and I decided that we would like to start trying to have a baby I got off of it. I did not start my period right away...they say it is because the Depo can stay in your system for up to 18 months....yeah long time. But to help your body flush it out and get back to normal they suggest getting on the pill for a few months. So I did. I got my period back as soon as I hit the lil green pills (sugar pills). I didn't get on the pill until a few months (4) after getting off the depo. As for you the depo is going to still mess you up till it is completely out of your system....remember when you first went on it? Yeah I bled off and on for months...sometimes weeks at a time. Then it would stop for a week or so and start back up again. So my advice...go on the pill, even if it is a low dose to have less of a period. It will help you get back to normal. As for me been off the depo for 3 yrs....and still no baby. Another down fall of Depo. It can take forever to conceive. Good luck to you.

I was on the depo shot for 4 years and it took me a whole year before i got a regular period.  I blead for about a year, not heavy just constent. But after that year my period was on the dot, first week in every month. And it's been about 5 years now and i'm 6 wks pregnant (planned).  Again, like someone else mentioned, don't rule out pregnancy, everyone is diffrent!  But it could be the hormonal changes your body is going through.

Depo Provera messes with your hormones and either you can bleed constantly once stopping or not bleed at all.  It can take about 12-18 months to get out of your system (however this is not true for everyone, some get pregnant the 1st month they stop the shot).  I was bleeding constantly while on the shot and as soon as it was time for me to get my next one I switched to BCP's.  My dr said this was fine and it would help my periods become regular after the depo.  My mom was concerned that this would "fry my overies", she was concerned about the amount of hormones my body was taking in.  But the Dr and pharmacist said it was normal.

I didn't bleed after coming off of depo this time. I was six weeks of being off of it and couldnt' figure out what was going on. Since the time before I was depo I started my period less than a month after being off of it. It was a regular cycle. Only this time no period and 6 weeks later I was pregnant. They say its not possible to get pg if you dont have a period cause your not suppose to ovulate well I guess you can ovulate without having a period cause I didn't have one and I got pg. Just my experience coming off depo this time around. Now I only have 9 weeks left in my pregnancy and can't wait. Time is ticking away slowly now. Good luck with getting your bleeding under control. I would do what one poster reccommended to you. Get on another for of BC so you can help control the bleeding like the pill or something like that. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks so much for everyone's advice and opinions. Keep them coming:) I had no problems while I was on it thankfully. I"ve heard so many horror stories about different side affects. I did bleed for a while when I first got on it, kind of like now but I knew that was a side affect of getting on it, I didn't know it would be one for getting off of it. Im just hoping it will end soon because it's kind of a nuisance.

It is normal for your cycle to be *off* when you get off the shot.  Erratic bleeding is common.  Your body can take a while to regulate itself again after you stop recieving the hormones.(Several months.)  Don't get too distraught.  Do use a form of birth control (i.e., condoms,) if you dont want to get pregnant now.  Good Luck!

I would rule out pregnancy....and if by a strange chance there was a pregnancy, 15 days of bleeding would have been a m/c.  I don't think that you were pg.  I don't have much knowledge concerning depo though....
