Spotting 5 days before period

I am hoping somebody has advice for me!  I am regular every month, ovulate around day 14, but consistently spot brown around 10 days past ovulation which is about 5 days before my period begins.  My period is normally around 7 days long and heavy flow days 1-3 or 4.  I have been trying to become pregnant and my doctor has tried prometrium and clomid but niether one has worked.  What is frustrating is that even when I was on the medication I still started spotting 5 days before my period started.  Does anybody else have advice or suggestions on what may be happening and what could help to become pregnant?  Thank you!

Thank you Mrs. Canada!  I did some research and think you may be right that it could be caused by either one.  I also have an appointment scheduled with a specialist in a month so that should help.  Thank you again!

Pre-period spotting is generally caused by a hormonal imbalance or endometriosis. Have you had either of these options checked out by your doctor? Either of these conditions can affect your ability to conceive so it is worth following up.
