Still spotting..................period too early

Trying desperately to get preggers.  As I said before, my period isn't due till 3-7  Sept but i'm spotting now.  I think it's too early for my periods to be coming.  Could I be miscarrying or something cause i've been having a casual beer when I go out and I do smoke.  What's wrong with me, any suggestions?????  if it's in fact my period, I would have a cycle of 20 days.  Is that normal?? I'm usually 28 but my last cycle was 24 with a period lasting only 3 days when it's usually 5.  Suspicous and worried!

Hi,

I've been having spotting/period for 11 days today (really light on and off) after I came on 6 days early.  Breasts tender but took 2 tests and both negative.  Does anyone know what this is?

if your periods not due for 2 weeks....your not even or just ovulating now..and yes that would be way to early to take a pregnancy test. also its early for implanation bleeding

it could just be simply old blood left over from your last period

Suzie,
These people are crazy. They act like smoking a cigarette or having one beer before you're even pregnant is akin to child abuse! Of course you should try to quit these habits, but just do the best you can. Take your vitamins and eat your veggies to build up nutrients, which the baby will suck out of you as it develops. Good luck!

I echo the comment of so many...you need to toss the drink and smokes today. Have you done a preg test? I do hope that your news is positive. Spotting is common during pregnancy. You need to contact your doctor to make sure all is well...and start taking care of yourself and, hopefully, that wee baby.

thanx for pointing that out about the signs of a possible miscarriage. i didnt "do the math" and while my description of a miscarriage may happen many months into a pregnancy, you are right in that one would hardly notice that early on. just wasnt thinkin'

Wow - smoking, drinking, and desprately trying to get pregnant. Those seem to be a contradiction. I don't want to jusdge you, but I thought you would like some information on trying to concieve while smoking.

Did you know that smoking actually makes it harder to conceive, irrespective of which partner smokes. Both female and male smokers have lower fertility levels, while adults who were born to mothers who smoked have less chance of becoming a parent themselves. Smoking also impedes the transportation of the egg through the Fallopian tubes to the womb. Male smokers tend to have a sperm count that is 15 per cent lower than that of non-smokers. Smoking can also: reduce the amount of semen, harm the motility of sperm, ie their ability to move around, and affect their shape.
Smoking can also affect the blood vessels that supply the penis, causing erection problems. If you're trying for a baby, all of the above could impair fertility.

If you are lucky enough to get pregnant despite your smoking, it is improtant to quit right away for the safety of the baby.

A baby in the womb gets everything from its mother. Nutrients and oxygen come via the placenta and umbilical cord. Smoking not only exposes the foetus to toxins in tobacco smoke, but it also damages placental function.

When a person smokes, some of the oxygen in their blood is replaced by carbon monoxide. If a pregnant woman smokes, her blood and therefore her child's blood will contain less oxygen than normal. This can cause the foetal heart rate to rise as baby struggles to get enough oxygen.

The particles in tobacco smoke contain different toxic substances that change the blood's ability to work in a healthy and normal manner. This can affect the placenta that feeds the baby.

I had the exact same thing happen to me last month.  I spotted for 7 days before AF finally came.  I went to my gyno and she said not to worry about it unless it keeps happening.  Also, when she did the pap I bled a little. She said I may have a small polyp in my cervix and that may have caused it.  Everything else was perfectly fine.  Now I am in day two of the 2 week wait!

If having a baby is what you really desire. Try to focus on your health ( stopping the smoking, no drinking). Start taking pre natal vitamins now. I agree 100% with the other post, start prepping your body NOW.
As for the cycle, I have had the same thing happen to me. It was fine. Sometimes stress, weight gain or loss, extreme exercise or different things in life affect your cycle and can cause it to go off balance at times. Just go see your gyno. to confirm.

thanx so much for your replies.  Just went to the b/room again and wiped and it's light pink but nothing on my panties.  Only when I wipe.  Gonna call my gyno and will keep you posted.  Trying to stop the smoking, have cut down though.  Thanx again.

It is weird that your period is a week early, but strange things like that do happen.  From your earlier post you mentioned that your previous period was shorter than normal so this could very well explain why this period is early.

If you were having a m/c right now, before you even knew you were pg, you probably would not notice anything different than a period.  This is where I disagree with the above post.  You are so early in a pg (if you are pg) that you wouldn't pass big clots and you wouldn't necessarily feel anything different than a normal period.  This is b/c you'd be soooo early in your pg that the embryo has not had time to build up any fetal tissue.  It is still tiny tiny tiny.

You could try to take a pg test, but I doubt it would show positive.  That's just my gut feeling.  Regardless if this is your period or a m/c, basically the rule is, red blood is bad.  Red blood either indicates a m/c or your period.  Anything like implantation bleeding would probably be brownish.  See what happens in the next few days and take a pg test on the day you would expect your period, if you are still worried.

I also strongly agree with the above post that if you are desperately trying to get pg, then you shouldn't be drinking and definitely shouldn't be smoking and should be taking prenatals.  Good luck!

well, i am by no means a dr. nor am i anywhere near the medical field but i do know however if you are "trying desperatly to get preggers", you should be "prepping" your body for it and that means not smoking and not drinking alcohol if you are trying. you should even be taking prenatal vitamins, eating healthy.

about your period. i have had a cycle of 20 days before. i am usually 26-28 days then it came at 20 days and im like what? i just had it! i just went with the flow (no pun intended). i dont think its unusual to have your period now. its almost the 3rd of sept. periods can be crazy like that. if you were miscarrying, you'd have severe cramps and lots of blood with some pretty big clots. you'd know something was up at that point. i dont think right now anything sounds that unusual.
