Sudden Weight Gain but Not Pregnant

I'll be 46 at the end of this month & just moved to a new state so I don't have the luxury of knowing any doctors.  In the last 1-2 months I suddenly gained 40 + lbs & look pregnant.   That seems to be where the weight all is.  A urinalysis proved negative for pregnancy on Monday & with my 3 grown kids I did not gain this much weight &/or so fast.  I just look pregnant & feel "full - heavy - tired & short of breath" most of the time.  Tomorrow I go for a Pelvic ultrasound w/a full bladder.  The day after I am scheduled for an Abdomen ultrasound - w/fasting.  Any idea what we are looking for or what could cause this?  I can barely eat because I feel so full & yet it's lately that I've gained the most weight.  I am not in pain, I just feel miserable - like over due.  When I asked at the doctor's office what could cause this & what we are looking for they said 'a cyst, tumor, or cancer'...... I would kind of like a bit more information if at all possible.  In the last week I gained another 10lbs & I know this can not be good or keep on.

Thanks,
JoeShell

I am 43 for the most part I have been healthy but the last 5 months I am a]gaining weight for reason. I eat well and was working out but now it seems like it's making me gain weight.  I did cardio because I didn't want to gain anymore muscle. I don't know where to start. I am seeing my OB right now and we are running test so we will see what happens

Check your progesterone levels!! day 21-22 of your cycle is when you do the test. That is what I look like too. I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome as well... treat with vitamins, diet and exercise... good look!

Hi there, I don't know if you still check this site, but I have the exact same symptoms as you do, and I have had no diagnosis, and everything I do to lose weight isn't working. I was wondering if you ever found out what was wrong, and what caused your symptoms? I used to weight 119, and now I'm 159lbs, and I have a strict and healthy diet, I exercise moderately, and my face, arms, lower legs are all thin, and even my breasts are smaller, but my stomach, hips, and thighs are massive for my body frame and I have no idea what to do next! Please if you see this, please contact me! I'm desperate to find out what's wrong!

I am seeing a Naturopathic Doc in Portland, OR now, who specialized in hormones. My progesterone is up to 18 now by switching to pills!! Anxiety is much better, was able to lose 10 pounds by eating Paleo. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Reactive Hypoglycemia. My DHEA was also low, so taking some of that as well. Still having bad PMS but at least its not constant like it was. I have hope now... hang in there ladies.
