Swollen Lips in Vagina during and after Sex - Help!

We both were infected with Chlamydia at the early stage of our relationship. We were prescribed the Anti-biotics and followed the course and everything cleared up fine. Shortly after my girlfriend got thrush from the anti-biotics (she had never had thrush before) and we did the usual 7 day thrush treatment and things there also seemed to clear up.

But then we started to have problems whilst having sex. Each time that we have sex now my girlfriends inner lips swell up severely, we ensure that everything is very well lubricated, but still her inner lips swell up to the point where things become very painful and we have to stop having sex.  The swelling will go down naturally within a day or so.

We have seen a couple of doctors and a gynaecologist about this problem. We have been prescribed Steroid creams to apply to the area to reduce the swelling. This does help, but only to reduce the problem after sex. It does nothing to fix the problem and stop it from coming back each time we have sex. We can't have sex for much longer than a few minutes before the swelling starts. My girlfriend is getting very frustrated and is in tears regularly now, and thinks that no one can help. And it does seem a little bit like that.  If anyone could give us some advice that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance.

yes, it does sound like an allergy!! it could be latex or spermicide, so make sure you are not using condoms with spermicide, as a LOT of women are allergic to the spermicide used on condoms. it sounds like the doctors your girlfriend has been seeing are not very good doctors. keep trying, and maybe someone at a sexual health clinic or even planned parenthood would hear her out better and help her out more.

It does sound like an allergic reaction.  I had a similar problem and it was cause from changing my soap.  I changed back and the problem went away.  Also latex allergy which is what condoms are made of is a very common problem.  They do make latex free.  Hope this helps.

Are you using latex condoms?  Using a different lubricant or a recent change in birth control method?
