Swollen clitoris

Several months ago my clitoris became swollen and tender, but there didn't seem to be anything really wrong with it so I thought it would go away on it's own.  I've masturbated regularly since I was young, but I didn't do anything out of the ordinary recently to irritate it.  Recently a couple small white bumps that may be pus developed, while the clitoris itself is still swollen and red.  The possibility of it being an STD is very low as I've never been intimate with anyone.  It doesn't hurt or itch or otherwise trouble me, and the clitoris is the only part affected.  Has anyone heard of this before?  What would cause this?

I have not heard of this, but it does sound like you should get to the doc and see what is going on. It may be embarrasing but better safe than sorry.

well, that has kinda happened to me. I got a yeast infection and had the pill from the dr to clear it up, but it didn't. And it got so bad that i was irritated on the outside as well as the inside and the clitoris was part of it that was irritated too. But if you don't have any of the other symptoms maybe it's not yeast infection? Try a doctor! Especially since it hasn't cleared up and you've had it for quite a while.

It sounds like clitoridynia.  Translated as, pain in the clitorus. Check out information on vulvodynia maybe even vulvar vestibulitus. Good websites are vulvodynia.com, nva, and some women's yahoo support groups like vulvodynia support.

This is not a std and probably not an infection. There are nerves that run through the pelvis that can overact for apparently no reason at all and they have the joy in ending were our most sensitive tissues are.  :|

You need to seek out a gyn that is familar with vulvar/genital pain issues.

There are treatments that can help. You may have to be persisent. Do not let any doctor tell you that this is 'all in your head because all of the tests are negative.' It's not. Finding a knowledgable doctor is the key.

I recently went to the doctor for the same problem. I was told that I have several cyst on and around my clitorus and an enlarged blood vessel and it is causing my clitorus to swell. My gyn said if it does not hurt then there is nothing to worry about. She sd that the swelling will eventually go down. She said if it get painful to just soak in a warm tub as often as you can to get the cyst to break on their own. I hope this helps you some.

a couple of nights ago after sex, i had the same problem, my clitoris swelled up but was neither painful or itchy. It went back to normal again withing 24 hours, but it still freeked me out! I put it down to sucking, like when you suck on a long balloon it swells, i hope this is right.

i have an indwelling catheter because I am paralysed and My clitoris is always swollen.  I just figured it was from the catheter.  Since I cannot feel anthing anyway, it does not bother me.  I hope its nothing too serious.  I just dont care anymore.  I am learning to live with it.

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. I freaked out went to the 2 dr.'s where I was tested for everything due to my paranoia and came back with just a yeast infection> the swollen clitoris still happens to me to this day when i have sex or their's alot of friction down there so I'm guessing im just sensitive?? The dr. couldn't really give me an explanation for that except that I was fine and to stop worrying about it

Hi, I have been having the same prob for a couple of months now too. I think my clitorus is swollen but I never really investigated it too much before! It is also tender to the touch if touched directly but I can still orgasm and have sex although psychologically it has affected me wanting to have sex. I believe that mine is psycholgical as I suffered from soreness for a long time before finally plucking up the courage to have std checks. Once getting the all clear my problems stopped that day!! I only now have this tender problem with my clitorus....because I worry so much about it that might the cause of it not going. Maybe ppl who suffer from these things may have some some issues or fears about their sexula area, causing unwanted symptoms, they can also be a sign to address things psychologically I know this is how it affects me.

I forgot to say Behcet's Syndrome causes vaginal inflammation. If you develop any other symptoms along with the inflammation, that may be a sign of this disease.

Do you use a laptop? I recently bought one. One night when I was using it for only around an hour and a half it was getting quite hot and my lady parts were as well, they started to itch a little as well. When I turned it off and got up to take a bath I notied that my clitorious had swelled up to an enormous size! Like four times the size! It was like a cross between th elephant man and preditor down there!

I was totally freaked out by this and rang HNS direct for some advice as this was not a normal thing, the size of it and the fact it seemed to come from nowhere really scared me. They said it was unusual for something to occur like this for no good reason and so severly, they suggested a cold compress and to go to the doctors the next day.

So I sat there with a bag of ice between my legs totally freaked by this baloon animal I was now sporting between my legs.

I awoke it the morning and most of the swelling had thankfully gone down .

I went to the doctors and he said it was highly likely that the heat of the laptop and lack of air has caused it to swell up! I had no idea that this was possible. The ill effects of laptop heat are well documented in men, but watch out girlies, as we are now starting to see effects on women as well. I wouldnt wish what I experienced on anyone.

I woke up yesterday with my clitoris swollen and extremely sensitive.  I haven't done anything sexual with anyone in about a week because I have my period.  I have never had sex but I have dont everything else.  The last time I did anything was last tuesday and I haven't had any problems.  Monday I woke up and my clitoris was swollen and it felt like I had bruised my clitoris or my pubic bone.  It still hurts today, will the swelling eventually go down?

It was back to normal after about 20 hours of not bothering it.
Its probably just irritated and had swollen up.

Hi there I have had this same problem for about a week to ten days now I was too embarrassed to go to the doctor at first as I live in a small community.  Then last night it kicked up a gear as I though it was thrush to begin with then the swelling becmae so big that everytime I moved it felt like stabbing pain and I couldn't help but cry I couldn't sleep all night then I called my mum (in England) and she said she wouldn't forgive me if I didn't go so I went to a clinic and unfortunately was seen by a man but when you're in that much pain you really stop caring and pride.  So I was checked out and he said it was an abcess (abscess) which oh yeah needed to be drained!!!!  Now I'm not a fan of needles but I didn't have a choice, he numbed it and then took out a whole lot of icky stuff which got sent off for testing.  I'm not going to lie it does hurt but straight after the sweeling was reduced and I could walk like me again and not like a penguin!!  He gave me penicillin to kill any bacteria and said I must have a bath and massage it gently as there was still a hole obviously more ick came out but I figure thats all got to be better out than in!  He said that the drugs may give me thrush so gave me a prescription for oral tablet too just in case!

Please girls if your symptoms match mine you must go get it checked its only gonna get worse!  He said that there was no real reason for it occuring just like a pimple lets just hope there will be no more in my lifetime!

The same thing happened to me as to Jackie84 as above. I literally woke up 3 days ago with my clitoris swollen, I thought it must be a reaction to my bubble bath as had had a bath the night before and hadn't showered afterwards. I thought it would go on it's own but the next day (yesterday) it was so much worse, so painful, I couldn't cross my legs and it was so swollen up, I was crying it was so painful. I thought it must be some kind of infection and decided to go to the Walk-in centre the next day.

Well I woke up in the night to find some yellow goo had come out of it (delightful) so thought maybe it was thrush or something. I went to the Walk-in centre and asked to see a female nurse who immediately said it was an abcess (abscess) and that 'I might not need surgery as it had started to drain itself'!! then she proceeded to squeeze it to make the pus come out! This was all pretty awful, I wasn't really embarrassed as I was so desperate for it to stop hurting. She gave me antibiotics and paracetemol and also ibuprofen to take and told me to take 3 baths with lots of salt in that day which should draw the rest of the stuff out. Well that was this morning, and I feel 100 times better.

My advice is not to hang around, go to a walk in centre, ideally early in the morning (I went at 9am) as there were hardly any people in there and I was seen really quickly, no hanging around with dodgy 'morning after' people! The nurse told me it is basically caused by a blocked gland and is really common, nothing to do with hygiene, sex etc (I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years). So don't be embarrased! I was told that it is not an abcsess and I got some antibiotics, I hope the pills will help but Im still worried about what it could be since Im not sexually active it cannot be a sexual disease. I also have had this issue.  I believe my swelling was within the same condition as Kellllllz.  I just started my period and stupidly wore new jeans that were tight so the seem rub and rubbed.  It didn't help it was a hot day and all day long I was walking outside shopping killing time before a concert that evening.  I thought the pain was cramping so of course I ignored it.  Come home my clitoris was so inflamed and swollen poor thing was just angry and triple its size.  So i did the check list and read what Kellllllz issue was.  So if you haven't been sexually active and have been cleared of STDs try this before you see a doctor.

ICE ICE ICE: 20 minutes on 20 minutes off do not apply heat.  

Think of it as a twisted ankle heat can make it worse.  with in one day the swelling decreased and the pain subsided. So right then and there it was no abcess (abscess).  Now if you do not see a decrease go see a gyn to look it over ASAP.

its not fun to waddle so try to wear baggy cloths until you are back to normal cause the pain is to much to have it last more then two days right!

I have had a few instances now where my clitoris hood gets inflamed. First time, I could barely move, it hurt so bad. I went to the doctor and he said the same thing it was an abcess (abscess). He drained it right then and there,and same as you girls I could instantly start walking again and it was completely normal within a day. I didn't get it for like a year and then I got it again. But REALLY Bad. I couldn't walk, had to take 3 days off work, and it was so inflamed it was the size of a cherry (smallest fruit I could think of of relative size). I couldn't even wear panties or pants. I had tried to "pop/drain" it myself without going to the doctors, but it hurt to much to even touch!! I went to the doctor again, this time he gave me anti inflammatory drugs and something else which over 3 days helped it reduce in swelling, until I was able to drain it myself. Since then I have had a couple small bouts with this and try to drain it asap as soon as I feel it coming on. I currently have it again and I am not sure what causes it, but the first doctor said it could be from "shaving"  down there and maybe I nicked it and it got infected... creating this abcess (abscess)... But reading about using soap also makes sense too.. I am just trying to keep it clean down there, and when its not to painful try to squeeze anything out I can...

so i am having a similar problem, my clitoris is swollen near the top and slightly tender to the touch... it is not red or throbbing or anything, just huge... i am a little concerned, but cannot make it to the doctor for another week... the woman with the laptop answer seems to hit closest to home, before i noticed the swelling i did spend a significant amount of time with the hot laptop on my lap.. however, the swelling did not go down the next day, and it has been a few days now, i also am having to pee more often.. i know it is not an std, and there has been no stimulation for some time.. i dont notice any white bumps, or other cyst-like symptoms.. any more advice???

The medicine Desyrel (trazodone) is an antidepressant that can cause extreme swelling of the penis after sexual stimulation. I have prescribed Desyrel for 20 years without problems in men. However, one of my patients told me that her clitoris was extremely red and swollen during the first few weeks after starting the pill. It was not sore, but it was so sensitive that she had an orgasm while wiping on the toilet on several occaisions.

So if you are taking Desyrel, now you know.

Hi! I ask everyone in this forum to stop looking for help online and go and see a doctor until its too late! If you have some kind of bacteria or virus inside you, know that it is doubling in quantity every day you wait. This means that if you have 20,000 bacteria today, tomorrow it will be 40,000, next day 80,000, 160,000.....!
My clitoris got swollen couple of months ago. It was just a little bit swollen in the beginning but it was doubling in size every day. First couple of days it didn't hurt so I thought nothing was wrong. I started worrying on day 3 when I woke up and saw the size of my clitoris! It was really I mean REALLY swollen! On day 3 I couldn't walk or stand cause the pain was unbearable. I was walking like a penguin. I called and got an appointment with a wonderful doctor.  She prescribed a strong antibiotic which I had to take two times a day, 3 yeast infection pills (because I told her that I sometimes get yeast infections) for once a day, also I had to do sit in warm baths at least 3-4 times a day, wash my clitoris with hydrogen peroxide mixed with water (half and half), and each time after bath dry my clitoris with paper towel very well and put Neosporin on it. Also she told me to avoid using soap in that area. So I started this treatment on Friday and she told me that if pus and possibly blood don't start coming out by Sunday I should give her a call on my way to the emergency room. In that case she would have to cut clitoris and drain it. So me and my husband went to the drug store and got everything we needed. With his help I did everything as prescribed and next morning (Saturday) pus and blood started coming out! What a relief it was!
I asked my doctor about laptop use and she said that if it was because of laptop, whole area would get swollen not only that particular part. She told me that it could be because of an ingrown hair or sex toys that stimulate clitoris (which we don't use).
Please PLEASE don't be embarrassed and go see a doctor. Also avoid using scented pads, tampons, soaps...

Well, from what I've heard, you shouldn't take a bath in anything that has a scent to it.  If you're already irritated that may not help but it could make it worse.  Also, if I'm not mistaken, swollen is inflammation.

guys it has been 8 years now um having enlarged clitoris,,lyk they are projecting out. you could see them when um standing naked. sometimes they swell and itch..what could be the cause? i suspect that i might have pulled them while i was young but cant they go back to their normal size??! um seriously worried cause its so embarrassing..cant even get naked for my boyf.

I have this disease call Behcet's and was only diagnose when I had a series of ulcers in the genital area. The ulcers came on their own (I am not sexually active and I don't use special products), and I did not respond to antibiotics or anti inflammitary drugs.  All I can say is if your condition is autoimmune you will most likely have ulcers in the genital, mouth, and GI track all at the same time (not just swelling in the clitoris.) My ulcers in the genital took about 2 years to fully heal I have not had any since, but have swollen genitals especially the clitoris regularly, there is nothing i can do about the swelling but to wait for it to go away and hope it don't develop in to an ulcer (cuase ulcers there take forever to treat) My only problem with the swollen clitoris is the annoyance like I can't wear tight pants or stand up too long... but hey that's nothing compared to ulcers.
