by kgreis, May 03, 2006 12:00AM
Woosh.....Scared and nervous..I have suffered for years from mental and physical abuse.  Turned to drugs for a coping tool....BAD IDEA....5 years later.. I WANT OFF trammie-WHat can i expect and how can i cope? I am a active mother of three and cant afford any down time...I can never admit to anyone this addiction,  Hard enough to admit it to myself.
I have been reading the posst for days now and today realized,  I have to quit.  HAve 10 pills left,  With  refill when needed. I take 15-20 on a stressful day. Have restless leg, achey (achy) bones and bad mood dizziness when i am on a low dose day.  Please help me,  I need to know what to expect to be able to struggle thru this.  You are all so brave and honest and wonderful to share with us who kinda just leark in the background, hoping their story will appear, or a answer to their question be answered !!! Thank you in advance :)

Is there a doctor or clinic in your area that specializes in pain management? They can monitor your detox and gradually substitute something less addictive. If you experience symptoms when you cut back, then you will certainly have more symptoms when you quit. I also think you need to reconsider keeping this secret, because you'll need suport to get through this. Don't be afraid to admit that you need help with this. Good luck.

A pain management is the best way to go.  They gradually reduce your dose.  If you do it on your own there may be bad side effects with your body.  They usually have you skip every other dose (depending on how you take it), then skip every other day, or go on lower mgs.  Then eventually switch you to a lower strengh medication that does the same thing.  Until you possibly can be taken off.  Please go get help trying to get off the meds...dont do it on you own. Ive seen way toooo many people and their reactions to doing it themselves...it makes things worse in the long run.  If you need someone to talk to there are plenty of people here that are willing to help.

I can tell you about tramadol withdrawl. It's horrible.  You sweat, can't function, can't sleep, night sweats, have stomach pains, can't eat, incredibly cranky.  I was on it for about 6 months when I went off of it.  I was taking it as management for cluster headaches and migraines.  I was only supposed to be taking 6 a day and ended up like you.  It's an absolutely horrible experience.  I ended up changing dr's because that particular dr was more into prescribing medications then actually working on fixing the issue.

If you go to a dr., they will slowly decrease your dosage and then you will start skipping days.  They can also give you something like klonopin or xanax to help with the anxiety and fear of not having the medication handy.  Doing it alone (if that's what you chose) will be pretty difficult.  I currently take oxycodone for my headaches but not daily and not in excess.  I went through that withdrawl and would not want to do it again.

Good luck.  I really hope that you decide to be open about your addiction.
