have you heard anything yet? also, i though those tests the dr. could tell you right then and there if any std's were present? did they have to send it to a lab or something? 10 days is a long time to have to sit and "stew" with worry!!

usually those face to face results are the ones you do not want to go in for if ya know what i mean. if you dont hear anything about lab results its usually negative. if its over the phone, its usually negative. when they want you to come in, its usually positive. are you specifically talking about an hiv test or regular gynocological, or std tests? you dont have to answer but its usually different depending on what type of test you had done.

Given the topic, I can tell you that some tests are done this way. If you take an HIV test, you are given a number. You then call, give your number, and the results are given to you over the phone. You are then expected to follow up with your doctor depending on what the results are. This is actually a very confidential way of doing things, but please know, that if you do test positive for an infectious disease, it will be reported to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). By them reporting it, it helps to control outbreaks of potentially fatal diseases. Your privacy will be protected, but if you were infected with say HIV,(just as an example) the person that infected you would need to be notified as well as anyone else you have been with that could have contracted it from you.
I hope that your results are good, and make sure to call as instructed and follow up with your doc for any questions you may have about the results.
Good Luck!

Thanks.
Sam - I'm thinking that they will tell you results over the phone if your neg but if your possitive then they would invite you back.
I didn't realise that your doctor got told I assumed that it was just the gum clinic that deal with it?

HIPPA regulations dictate that they can no longer send results through the mail because it's a privacy violation.  The provider could be fined and sued if they are not following those rules.  It was a federal mandate that came into effect a few years ago.

You probably got a phone number with a provider identification number.  You enter both your ssn and pin for the results.  They will either tell you everything was normal or that you need to schedule a follow up appointment with your provider.

They told YOU to call back in 10 days??? I'm pretty sure they wont give you the results back over the phone, especially if its for confidentiality reasons. They're supposed to call you if anything shows up, or send a letter requesting you to come in.  If you dont hear from them, no news is good news.
If they wont tell you over the phone, then stop by the clinic where you had the tests done, and speak with a nurse or doctor reguarding your test results. Give it 2 weeks, 10 days is sometimes not long enough for them to put everything togather.
