My gynocologist has scheduled me for a D&C next week. I have been on HRTHormone replacement therapy for over 20 years with good results - I am 75 years old. I am in perfectPerfect choice health, not overweight, normalNormal saline flush blood pressurePressure ulcer, etc., physically active and maintain a feeling of well being. I am on the lowest estrogenHormone replacement therapy dose with progesterone taken days 1 to 12 each month. Until recently, I had a small menstrual period each month, about day 13, lately those periods have been almost non existant. I had a sonogram which showed a thickening of my uterus and then I had a biopsy. The gyncologist was unable to get a large enough cell sample from the biopsy to test and now I am scheduled for a D&C to get a better cell sample. Please tell me what are the problems associated with a thickening of the uterus. The doctor assured me that a thining of the uterus with frequent bleeding was a concern - but has not said what a thickening of the uterus means. Is this something that could cause some sort of a cancer? He assures me that the D&C is only to get the cell sample - which I am sure is, but what can happen when you have a thickened uterus. He told me that a normal uterus is 5mm and mine is 11mm.
Its good you will get a biopsy that would show if its benign or not You sound like you are healthy...... When are you going to get it done? You are going to be fine keep me posted...
I go for a D& C on 6/18 - I just want to know if a thickening uterus is a sign of something gone wrong, like a cancer. My doctor says he's doing the D&C just to convince himself all is okay. Why is a thicken uterus a concern?
