Topamax while trying to conceive

My Husband and I are thinking about trying to start a family soon. I am on Topamax for migraines. I have been on Topamax for a few years now and it has been a big help !
When I don't take a pill the next day I can tell because I get a major Migraine and it's obviously not fun! anyways the questions I am trying to ask is. Do I need to get off of Topamax NOW before trying to conceive or do I stay on it until I find out I am pregnant and then figure out what to do from there regarding my migraines?

thank you! :)

Hello again :) so I went off birth control a few weeks ago and the following week I started bleeding .. I guess I could call that my menstrual cycle .. well today is Thursday and if I go by the pill cycle I should have started Tuesday so do I go by when I started bleeding after going on BC or do I go by my pills ? I don't want to get my hopes up so thanks!!!

Topamax is necessary in epilepsy even during pregnancy. Hence it can be avoided for migraines.

Thank you so much for getting back to me
The reason I use topamax is because I have migraines
So I am hoping and praying that I can just get off of it or at least get on something that would be safe for a baby.
I am not pregnant yet but we are trying. I thought about just weaning myself off of it but I know how bad my migraines get. Who knows how long it will take me to.get pregnant too. I.was on birth control since high school and so I don't know if that makes it difficult to get pregnant or if I could get pregnant immediately after getting off of it.

All I want to for my baby to be healthy and for me to be healthy
I don't want to take topamax when it could cause something to hurt our baby.

Thanks again

Hello,
There are no controlled data for topamax in human pregnancy. Infants exposed to topiramate in utero have an increased risk for cleft lip and/or cleft palate (oral clefts). However drugs are needed during pregnancy to control seizures also.

It has to be replaced or stopped in the first trimester.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
