Treating A Yeast Infection

by mickih, Nov 28, 2005 12:00AM
Does anyone know if it's safe to treat a yeast infection with an over the counter cream while having an IUD in place?

Thanks in advance.

I would think it'd be perfectly safe but I'm not 100%.  You should just give your OB/GYN a quick phone call.  Just ask to speak to a nurse and ask her.  She'll be able to tell you quickly.

Many years ago, I used to put up with lots of yeast infections and use creams only for them to return at a later stage.  One time, my doctor gave me lozenges to take 1 to 3 times a day for a week and I expected the worst in that they would taste awful, but to my surprise they were quite nice.  Since taking those lozenges, I have never suffered yeast again.  EVER.  Sometimes it's better to treat the problem internally than externally as the problem is caused internally.  Maybe it's something to think about trying.  Good luck.
