Hi, I wore pads as a young girl when I first started having my periods.  I never did experience any problems with wearing them, but I believe there can be problems connected with leaving or forgetting to remove tampons for an extended perior of time.  I would be sure and change tampons often to avoid any problems.  I didn't care for wearing pads as they are more difficult to dispose of and sorta gross to look at.  With a tampon, you can just flush them down the toilet and not even have to look at them.  I used Tampons all my life.
Hope this helps some.  Sincerely, Sharon

I used to never use tampons, but my flow was so heavy, I eventually gave in and tried a tampon.  It beats having a bulky pad!  Anyway, it comes down to individual preference.  The risks aren't as great as they used to be.  Toxic shock syndrome is the only thing I've heard of women getting, but if you change tampons every 4 or so hours during the day (6-8 if you're sleeping, obviously), you shouldn't have to worry.

I'd say if you have your doubts, get a small box suitable for your usual flow.  You can try it for a day or two, and you should know if it's for you.  The box for Playtex gives pretty good instructions for a first-time user.  Don't know about others.

I think it's up to the individual, really. I use tampons most of the time when i have my period, a light pad if heavy. If you use them probably there safe, like don't leave them in for over 6hrs. Better then getting leaks with pads! They do take a bit of getting used to to start.
