UTI?

This past week just about every time I would urinate it would feel like I couldn't fully relieve myself. Then twice today when I went to the bathroom it hurt really bad like someone was poking my urethra with a neddle. I hurt really bad, I don't know how else to describe that. It really freaked me out, I've never had anything like that happen before. I haven't had the urgent feeling of having to go and when I do go it's a normal amount. Later on when I went it didn't hurt while I was going, but after I got up and walked for a min I got a really fast sharp pain in that same area. Randomly throughout the day I would get little gabs of pain there as well. Like I said I've never had a UTI so I don't know what it's supposed to feel like.  I called my doc and later on in the afternoon I went and did a urine culture. I noticed that my urine looked really cloudy, it wasn't clear. As far as I can remember any time I've ever done a urine culture my urine is yellow, but you can see through it. This time it was yellow like normal, but you couldn't see through it. I won't get the test results back until tomorrow and I'm really just curious as to what this is. My doctor told me to take Uristat while I wait for my results and that it would help the pain, I'm a little hesitant because what if I don't have a UTI, would it still be ok to take that. If there's anyone that might have an idea as to what's going on please let me know. Thanks!

I'm going with cipro for 7 days plus cytex which has methenamine which converts to formldehyde in urine (OTC)

I'm not sure if this is too much, but then I was having shooting pain and still some soreness/discomfort after cipro and 40 cytex tablets and burning

if you have sharp pain from a uti do I need to take cipro for 14 days?  the doctor only gave me 3 days 500mg 2x/day and I'm still having sharp pain in my lower abdomen

since nothing else can cure a UTI I feel like I MUST take cipro for 14 days?

It actually doesn't sound like a uti to me.  But lets wait for the urine test.

If you are using cranberry juice, please make sure it is REAL pure cranberry juice, not "cranberry cocktail".. these juices are full of sugar and no real cranberry at all.

You are better off to take cranberry extract pills that you can buy at the health food store as they are more concentrated and have no sugar obviously.

Mrs Canada is right. Make sure it's the unsweetened yucky stuff (: I got mine at Wal Mart but it is lots more spendy.

if it is a UTI, once it gets cleared up with the medication, i would suggest drinking one glass of cranberry juice every day (more if you like the taste is ok!).  it's been proven that the juice helps combat UTIs and can help heal them faster.  i've been doing this for years and i swear it works wonders!  maybe it's just the placebo effect, but i say it's at least worth a try.

hope you feel better!

That's what it sounds like to me. I recently was put on antibiotics for the rest of this pregnancy. Are you pregnant? Regardless, I asked if I can take uristat and I was told I can for two days, until the antibiotics start working. It gave great relief!! I would get it if I were you. Good luck-UTI's are not fun!
