Unusual Lump under mandible

I'm 31. I have a lump in the middle of my lower mandible. I can feel it by rubbing underneath my mouth without applying pressure. I noticed it about 3 weeks ago.

I think my paternal grandmother died from some type of lump in her throat in the 1950's. I'm worried. My Dr's don't seem to be worried about it. Please advise.

You should never diagnose without an evaluation, but it's likely a torus mandibularis--a hard bony growth on the inner side of your lower jaw between your canines and pre-molars. It's often associated with teeth grinding, though no one is really sure. If it bleeds easily, develops patches of white or red and white tissue, or causes any pain you should get it checked right away, but it's most likely benign.
