Uterine Fibroids. . .what's the next step?

My gyn suspected I had uterine fibroids after an exam determined I had an enlarged uterus.  I had an ultrasound today and the radiologist confirmed I had fibroids (plural).  I asked if they were big, and she said yes, about 6cm.

I know that generally fibroids are harmless, but is size an important factor?

I am not positive on what they do. I think I might have them as well. Are you on the pill? I have heard that that can sometimes shrink the fibroids. I also think they can do surgery and remove them. As long as they are not causing any major problems, they might just leave them alone. My mom had a fibroid that weighed about 5lbs. she had to have a full hysterectomy. I think yours seem small though. Best of luck! Please let us know how you make out. I am really curious!!

I think size and level of pain has a lot to do with it.  If the fibroid is causing pain and/or is extremely large the doctor may suggest removing it.  Personally, I think 6cm is rather large.  I had several fibroids removed and I don't think the doctor removed them all.

it all depends what kinds of issues they are causing on you.
Mine was 4cm x 4 cm and was causing major infertility on me. They shrank it with Lupron shots (2 months) and then i had surgery to remove it, turns out, the lupron took care of it! IT WAS GONE!.....so you might wanna ask about it.....
Are they submucusal? in the walls? or outside???? how many of them? are you TTC???
