Vaginal Lesions- Part 2

lavw74, I wanted to respond to your last post on the other vaginal lesions thread ( Looks like the thread has now closed because it's reached the max posts for a thread)

I also believe I caught what I have ( Still thinking it's herpes) from my partner. I started getting symptoms 2 days after first having sex with him - he had been getting these blisters for quite a while before he met me... but had always put it down to friction.I made him have a full STD check before sleeping with him because I had just came out of a 10 year relationship and I didn't want to risk getting anything. When the tests all came back negative I thought everything was ok...but we both didn't know at the time that you don't routinely get tested for Herpes or warts in an STD check up.

I too have had my "paper cuts" swabbed - but mine came back negative. I had heard that might be the case anyway with herpes being so hard to detect. Like you...nearly every time I have sex now it re opens the cuts again - I think the area is so weak now it will more than likely keep doing that. The doctor at the clinic who swabbed me said that he thought it was herpes also and prescribed me medication...but with the negative result it just throws it all up in the air again. Deep down even though I wish to god it isn't what I've got...... I know it is.

Thanks for sharing your story it helps reading others.

I'm just about to go over and read that link you posted...

Dr. Handsfield on the STD board has often highly recommended GUM clinics in the UK, and from those posts and others I'm pretty sure they do offer herpes blood tests. It's possible your doctors just didn't think the issue was herpes, so they didn't recommend further testing.

I'm not trying to persuade you that you don't have herpes, because I certainly can understand your fear during pregnancy. However, the cuts plus your other pains and nerve-type issues are quite probably due to the pregnancy. Low back pain is extremely common in general, and even MORE common during pregnancy from the extra weight and pressure. Any pressure on your lower back and in your buttocks can really trigger sciatica/sciatica-type issues from your lower back, down the back of your legs to your feet. The cuts may be a hormonal thing since you're pregnant.

Read and maybe even post on the STD board since Dr. Handsfield is a world-renowned STD specialist. I would also return to a GUM clinic and ask for a HerpeSelect herpes blood test, just for your peace of mind. That should answer the question for you :-)

Thanks for your post.

I didn't end up taking the medication I was given at the time because I wanted to see what the results were first - so I haven't ever tried the medication to see if it works or not.
As for the blood test - I'm from the uk and i've never heard of them doing it here. My doctor or the STD clinic has never mentioned anything about getting a blood test done.
Since having my negative result I haven't been back to my doctor about this because I just get the feeling they are not that bothered.

I am now pregnant and in my 3rd Trimester and after speaking to my midwife i've asked to be put on medication for the last few weeks of my pregnancy because i'm nervous as hell about it being herpes and obviously scared about what could happen if it is.

It would be so much easier if I knew one way or the other what the heck it is - the not knowing is driving me insane. As well as the paper type cuts I also get itching, soreness, tingling in my legs and a increase in vaginal discharge. When I first started getting this the sensations in my legs got that bad at times I found it difficult to walk and at that time I was also suffering with my lower back also.

I will pop over and look at the STD board like you suggested now...

I didn't read the other post, but just wanted to say that you may or may not have herpes. If you have cuts that keep continually reopening, that would actually seem to point against herpes... a herpes outbreak would last maybe a week or two, go away, and then come back later. And if the doctor gave you medication (I'm assuming Valtrex or something like that) and it didn't clear things up, that would be another indicator that you DON'T have herpes.

So, it may be that you have some other kind of skin condition. I would do two things: 1. ask your doctor for a HerpeSelect blood test, and 2. see a dermatologist. I'd also read the FAQ and some of the other posts on the STD board.
