Sounds like Bacterial Vaginosis(BV). It's very common and it can cause smells like that. You don't have to be sexually active to get BV either. Just make sure she goes to the doctor to get some meds for it. But let her know that it often returns every now and then.
Nobody knows why it happens but it's an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina or something like that. Doesn't mean you're dirty, could be allergic reactions, stress, anything.
I have never heard of that before either... Could she try some femine deoderant spray or maybe some babypowder to help with the moisture? When I was in high-school I had overactive sweat glands... it was really embarrasing, my doctor told me that it was a hormonal imbalance, so maybe she could go back to the doctors and see if there is anything that they can perscribe.
Tellher to stop douching--if it bacteria she is pushing it up farther and may be causing more complications to her self--tell her to get to a gynocologist right away--she will not want to mess herself up. Also if she is getting serious and thinking she may progress to sex with her boyfirend she can also get herself on birth control and be ready.
