Vaginal itching

Itching and burning on the vagina ( outer side) before & mor epronounced after the periods for about a week and then subsides for the last two - three months. why is this happening? what can be the reasons for this?
Please explain fully. I have ovarian / uterine fiberoid cyst too for about more than any year with no symptoms.
