Vaginal odor, After hysterectomy

Hello everyone, I had a partial hysterectomy about 8 years ago. I noticed everytime I have sex with my boyfriend, my vagina smells different. I douche and I take warm baths. I douche maybe once or twice a month. I am wondering if I am having this odor because I don't have a menustration anymore. Before I had the partial hysterctomy I never had a problem with having a vaginal odor. I went to the doctor my pap test are fine. Do I need to douche more? Please Help! Thank You!

Oh goodness, I'm having the same issue after washing my kooka two years after my hysterectomy!!!! It smells like decaying meat!!!! Plus I have a milky discharge to go with it. I had to stop taking my Vitamin D capsule because it made me smell like sour poop stink (even though I wipe properly). I don't get an offensive odor  though after fooling around or being intimate with my male friend/lover. Only after I've showered. Maybe I should do a vinegar douche instead of a floral douche to do away with the over populated bacteria in my kooka. Idk. All I know is in, my kooka smells like the grim reaper chillin up there regardless of just getting out of the shower

Hi there!  So, first, I love the 'kooka' name.  LOL  You're writing style cracked me up.  On to your problem---  so, I'm thinking bacteria.  Do NOT NOT NOT douche or it could make things even worse.  Doctors don't recommend that for this reason.  It is a bit odd to get it after you shower, I agree.  So, what about trying this. . . antibacterial soap with a wash cloth washing the folds of your outer genitals.  Those creases.  Bacteria can get trapped in those creases.  Trim the pubes up too if you don't as they also can get discharge and such stuck near the base and stench happens.  And this may not be polite conversation at the dinner table but definitely IS good conversation with your ob/gyn.  Ask them about it---  lastly, do you take probiotics?  I can't say enough about how those can help all sorts of things. Let me know what you think of this.
I do clean my kooka completely, and I'm shaved bald. I don't take probiotics because they're so expensive. I see my doctor soon, so I will bring this to her attention. I'm glad I got your spirits up with my funny talk though. My niece got me to watch Jersey Shore with her and that's where I got kooka from lol
I had a partial hysterectomy 7 1/2 years ago and I had the odor and creamy fluid inside of me
every since.  All my test results were negative, but I stilm have this horrible odor. I'm so depress behind this issue I stop having sex with my husband. I have an MRI of my pelvic area to find out what's wrong.
I have a appointment on Thursday with an OB/GYM specialist.
I shaved bald and dry. The smell still was there. The smell is still there. Frustration is all I know.
After going to 3 different OB/GYM. I finally found a doctor to listen to my concerns.
Jersey Shore!  I should have known!  lol  I'm going to call it my kooka from now on!  Ugh, you ladies make me realize the impact a hysterectomy can have in all sorts of ways.  What did your doctor say about the odor??
To both ladies: I guess I have to bump my appointment up sooner or go to urgent care to find out why I smell like a butcher shop. I'm bald, I wash all the way around my kooka and after my shower, I smell like rotton meat and NOW fishy (my best friend and I don't have sex often either. I feel guilty pulling the sex plug on him until I smell better because I don't want to be a turn off for him.

Kooka is the clean way I say it lol because I don't like referring to it as vagina or other correct terms because they all still make that lady part sound offensive lol. I taught my daughters poonannie when they were learning how to talk, but they call it kooka now lol.

poonannie, lol  You are cracking me up.  I have sons.  At some point,  saying "your pee pee"  got kind of funny.
Anyway, I'm still wondering about bacteria.  That can have these smells.  Please tell us what the doctor says-----  for all rotting meat ladies out there, it will help them all!
Of course I'll inform all us ladies who suffer as I do.

Haha, my best friend calls his man part "pee pee" lol. I still love his silly smart bum. I had to put off even if I was just visiting him because of my stench. Today I'm going to urgent care to get answers. With my much, just a referral to  a gyni. Oh well, such is life. Thanks for being my response buddy though. I appreciate you.
We should start a whole post on names for private parts!  I think it would get us both laughing!!  I'm going to send you an invite to another forum I'm on where we have fun questions, relationship type questions (it's the relationships forum)---  would love for you to check in and post there.  I like your style and have appreciated you too!  AND, let me know what the doctor today at urgent care says!

https://www.medhelp.org/forums/Relationships/show/78  that's the forum that I think you'd enjoy! :>))
Unfortunately I didn't go because I had a migraine I had to sleep off. I am going tomorrow for sure because it smells like fish and strong coffee. I'm so glad I can talk to you and make you laugh. Yeah, this is a serious forum, but getting women to laugh about this instead of worrying like we tend to is comforting. Yeah, its something to worry about, but don't let it run your day until it's done ruining your whooha.

Wee wee is another hilarious  term for our vaginas lmao

Thanks for inviting mee to that forum, I always need a good laugh. Ha, maybe in time they'll make friend requests on here and we can be friends on here lol
I just sent you a friends request!  :)))
paganmom----  what ever ended up happening??  What did the doctor say/do?
I'm healthy. I asked my I smelled and she didn't smell anything. I asked why I smelled like rotten meat and she said dehydration. So I am keeping up on my water intake. I have never smelled that bad, but if staying hydrated keeps me from stinking, cheers!!!

Hi. Many years ago I found what was called a “tiny kit” at the drugstore. It is a pink plastic “bladder” with a white plastic “applicator” that screws onto the opening of the bladder. I love this thing because it flushes you out, and you can just use warm water if you want. Just take it in the shower with you, filled with warm water, insert the applicator, and squeeze all the warm water out of the bladder... it’s just a easy simple flush with no flora-changing chemicals... best wishes to all.

I had a partial hysterectomy last July. I didn't start having troubles with a peculiar smell until about 6 months ago. I went to my doctor to have some test ran to see if I had an infection. I came back with a good bill of health so no answers there. I also scheduled appointment with a gynecologist which the results were the same, very frustrating! It made me feel like I was dirty and I didn't want to have relationships with my husband. So I start researching why does this happen to some people after having a hysterectomy or partial hysterectomy. With that I tried a lot of things. I brought Waterworks system which was $100 on eBay, I tried refresh probiotics, I brought new underwear, I tried drinking baking soda water and drinking green tea but nothing worked. Just recently I ran out of the current beauty bar soap I was using three times a day. So I switch back to my old soap which is dial spring fresh. And I've been using the beauty bar soap for at least 6 months. To my surprise it was the soap I was using, now I'm back to normal.

I hope that this helps. I didn't think anything would work and I was feeling very hopeless at the time.

THANK YOU!! I thought it was just me, I'm 41 and just had full hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. It seemed like douche made it worst and the feminine sprays don't last long. I was taking 2 or 3 showers a day, thank you again Monistat 7. I will definitely try this.

Its all about ph balance. 7 is the # you want to be at and they do sell ph balance strips at the pharmacy, the health food stores have expanded, and now there are more products geared towards the vagina instead of of just using acidadolfalous, which is essentially for the bowel.
I've had a hysterectomy and ever since then it smells bad I take 2 showers a day I douch 2 a month I haven't changed body wash or what I was my clothes in and my stress is the same as before I don't know what to do but I'm ashamed to have sex with my husband because of it I don't know what to do

Hi everyone I'm 47yrs old I had to get a total hysterectomy when I was 20yrs old. I've noticed I have to drink a lot more water or green tea with lemon otherwise my smell is concentrated. Also between boyfriends sometimes are ph smell together didn't smell good and I didn't have an infection. I hope this helps. Drink more fluids and take a bath I use Dove soap. Also our bodies produce natural yeast I'll sometimes use lemon rub around the peri area to kill bacteria. Especially in summertime I hope this helps

Hi Stacey55
Thank you for your post. After your full hysterectomy,  did you experience vaginal dryness? Low libido? Vaginal pain during sex? If so, how did you overcome these issues? Please help

I had vaginal odor before my full abdominal hysterectomy. My doctor said my cervix was "weeping" from the stress of the fibroid. So after my hysterectomy...here I am with vaginal odor again!  It's a different kind...but still odor! It drives me nuts. I haven't had sex in 4 months. In my last relationship I wanted to stop having sex altogether because the smell bothered me and I was embarrassed.  That's not why we broke up, but I'm not interested in dating or getting close to anyone until I fix this odor problem.  It frustrates me. I change my panties twice a day and follow all the "healthy vagina" rules. Nothing has helped. ;(

You can go toWalgreens and purchase a product called Noraforms. It's a suppository you put inside and it blocks and kills any odor imaginable. I clean myself w/Summers Eve wash before I use the product. It's an amazing little ovule. You'll love it. You can find it by the douche in a little purple & white box.
You're welcome ❤️

Was u told by a doctor to use this or did u discover it on ur own? Did u have a hysterectomy? Do u every douche, or just use the Noraforms? Is this a suppository for the vagina? Thank u for answering my questions.

I am 65. My gyro used a procedure to fix my bladder prolapse up but mentioned beforehand that he might have to take my uterus out, which he did. I had this done three weeks ago, had to stay in hospital for five days, and since then am  recovering at home. No problems at all except for this awful smell and a bit of discharge.  I can smell it on me all the time, it drives me crazy. I change my pad four or five times a day, use baby wipes, I thought it is the discharge that smells but after reading all your comments it's apparently not that. I am going to try drinking baking soda and water and if that doesn't help I am going to get Monistat 7 as some of you have suggested. I will have my checkup in just over two weeks and will ask my doctor about it.  Will keep you all posted of the outcome.

I'm 36 and I just had total hysterectomy October 15th, 2014. I too have experienced bad odor. It was sooo bad that I called the doctor, went in for a visit and said that I had developed granulation. It's some kind of tissue that is left over after the surgery that can cause odor, pain, and spotting. This is almost after 3 months after surgery. He treated with some kind of nitrate, wants to see be back in a week.  I shall wait and see.

I'm 60 and had a complete hyst 6 weeks ago. I have not had a period in over 10 years because of menopause and NEVER had any odor until now.  I've resumed sex with my husband and I can not stand the odor. I'msure it has something to do with the hysterectomy. I am perplexed and have not talked with my doctor yet about this.

I'm 38 the doctor dint even give me a choice, if I had to get a full hysterectomy, I was very young I was 21 in June of 97, I had mine, over the years I never had problems, till a few years back, if I'm really attracted to that person, I start off having sex dry, then I noticed I would wet my fingers and rub my g spot, then I would begin to relax, sometimes I would get super wet, but it fill like I peed on myself, and my BF would say did u per on me, I would have to explain know I didn't, but truly know the feeling really do feel if u pissed on yourself, I never new of taken any hormone medicine, I never used hormone medicine till last year, I'm 38 now, my reason I started hurting really bad trying to have sex, then it got to were I hurt so bad down below, when my BF ask for sex, I just made a excuse why I didn't want sex, then it got so bad for me, I could not stand to wipe my kitty with tissue, or use a wash cloth, then different soaps would make my kitty hurt bad to, then it got the point where I could just be laying down resting or walking, then I would get really sharp on and off throbbing pain, that would last for 10 seconds, sometimes threw out the day are week. I kept my family doctor everything she check me for came back good, so she just gave me some cream to insert 3 times a week. I use to use that cream for years but it wasn't helping, so my doctor sent me to a GYN , I went she check me, I cried like a new born screaming, because I could not stand the touch, with in the past 4 years my sex life went from good, to having sex once a week, 2 times out of a month, till 0, to hurting not wanting sex, and going with out sex 1 year straight, so after I went to this GYN doctor she gave me  some Vagifem Estradiol Vaginal Tablets 10mcg I insert 2 a week, I take Estradiol by mouth 1 time a day 1mg. After taken the medicine, I've gave myself 4 months before I tried to have sex in June 2014, I had to coach my BF  on how to do my body, I use some KY, I asked him to easy it in, I was tender and a little sore, I could not feel that on the outside, because the outside feeling went a way, that's why I felt like I was well. When couldn't stand 1 stroke, I begin to handle 4 or 6 stroke, so I made my BF wait a few more weeks, July 2014 came we tried again, now I'm having sex at least 3 to 4 times a week, but my kitty can't handle any hard stroking, my wall I go back to hurting, get sore tender my wall when I wipe have light blood. So now I have to use the KY and make love if I want sex. I just allowed my BF to have oral sex with me over 4 years. So since I been taking the medicine, I'm able to let him go little longer down below, but my kitty is still tender. So I'm not able to handle that much as I would like. So thanks to the  doctor, I almost gave up on life and ended my relationship. I'm still praying I get back 100%, Now I'm getting my sex life back day by day. I hope what I have been threw and going threw help u.                                                                                                                Can someone out there answer, I have a question about hysterectomy why when u climax it be a lot, of it to were I have to change my sheets, I hate that pee feeling, thanks for listening...

Glad you did not marry a man that would leave you when you are having problems. Try lubricant and see your gynecologist to see if she needs to perscribe a cream (hormone) for your vaginal area. A person I know did this and it was a success, please check with gyne first!

I am 42 years old, had a hysterectomy December 2013. Since then, I have had abdominal pain, it's painful during sex; feels like the top of my vagina  is sealed up or closed at the top.  I am very much OCD, therefore I don't use or do anything that I think May cause me an infection; like putting chemical in my baths, douching, or using scented soaps and/ or body washes. I wash before and after sex and still have a foul odor and it's embarrassing to me.  I believe it's bacteria infections but don't know how, I am extremely  a cleaned person and washes twice a day. I have been to the doctor several times and he continue to prescribe a cream for me but I'm sick and tired of using creams when I'm doing everything to prevent these issues. Thanks for sharing

Hi ladies. I'm 47. I used a reusable douche kit for 27 years now. I need it for after intercourse because my hubby’s sperm irritates me (burns and itches) It happens to a lot of women. My doc said it was ok with only water. Have never had problems with that (no infections etc...) Also before having intercourse i wash the outside of my vagina with spectro gel (the non scented one) I keep it on for 30 sec then i rinse it off. (i do this after the dove soap job!) It takes all the odor away so it's not embarrassing to have sex (especially oral sex) Also I wear a light poise pad because my plumbing leeks a bit, this started about 10 years ago! If you have a urine problem, it is better to use a pad for that and not for menstruation because it is specialy design to illimate urine odor. I had a complete hysterectomy feb 14, 2014. Very happy about the results, no more menstrual pain etc... I'm 4 weeks recovery and yeah had the brown, yellow, beige discharge arg! But it is slowly stopping. Not going to try the douche for a least an other 1,2 weeks. Hope this helped!

I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and I have also been with the same man since then and have been checked for everything. And douching was out of the question. Also I thought about trying the monistat but it is costly each month and I hate the stuff coming out all day. Sorry to be so graphic but the subject just is anyways. Was talking with my husband about it and he agrees  that is because I don't have periods anymore and his sperm has no way of coming completely out of me since I have no period, plus all the other bacteria that is in there. The normal bath does not work because the water does not go up in there. We had talked about finding something to just squirt water up in there while taking a shower which was hard. Now this might sound gross but it worked for me.  My mom has a big bath  and I go visit every other weekend. So I started taking a hot bath with some clear soft soap and while I was in there I used my hand and swished water up in there. U might have to suck in. And the I would push it out. And you need to be able to feel it to know it went in.  I do that several times. It works because that is the only time I would do it cause are bath is small.. My husband started noticing and said I smelt good after I would come back. So I am going to start trying to do it several times a week. Sorry this is so graphic and it might be gross but I will do anything to keep from smelling that foul odor. And you can always rinse off in the showe afterwards. I hope this will help you, cause I know how all of you feel.

I just had a partial hysterectomy about four weeks ago and I'm experiencing a very foul odor.  I'm still having a little bit of a bloody discharge, which they say can happen after hysterectomies, but the odor is to die for...literally.  I can't take it any more.  I'm hoping it's just the discharge and once that is completely gone then so will this odor.  I'm sad to hear that you guys are still experiencing the odor YEARS after your surgery.  That makes me sad.  I'm still in the timeframe of "no sex for six-eight weeks" so I can't say it happens after sex.  I'm not married or dating anyone right now, thank goodness but I can not endure this smell.  To me, it smells like old blood.  That's the only way I can describe it.  Horrible!  I'm going to wait until my 6-week appointment with my doctor and mention it to him, but I really, really hope it's stopped by then.

too have had a total hysterectomy and suffered an odor problem. I have no infection and I bath daily and wear clean undies and clothes. I figured it out. I am losing just little drips and drops of urine throughout the day. I am not "peeing" my pants and sometimes you don't even realize you are losing a little urine. The crotch of my panties were damp and I was occasionally conscious of a few drops coming out. I started wearing a Poise Liner (and changing it a couple times a day) and Viola! My problem is over.
