Vulval itching and inflammation

Hi, I have had intense vulvar itching and inflammation around the vulvar area. I haven't had any discharge so I know it's not thrush. I normally get this during my period but this time I got it before my period started and the itchiness n inflammation is much more intense. I'm 21 and otherwise healthy. I'm not sexually active atm so it's can't be STD. What could this be?

Thank you for your response, that really helps. The itching and inflammation has ceased after my period was over. I''m not too sure wether to go get it examined still or not.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Red itchy vagina can be due to a number of causes. First of all it can be due to allergic reaction or contact dermatitis to your undergarments, sanitary napkins or tampons, soaps etc. There is no change in the colour or smell of discharge in this case.

Secondly, It can be due to STD’s like Chlamydia or thrush but in such cases change in discharge is often present.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
