Vulvar biopsy - very scared!!!

Does anyone know a site that has comparison pictures of vulvar discoloration? I have hyperpigmentation around the vulva, looks like blackish swirls. had a biopsy of that area, but I am also suspicious of a flat macular spot that is purple-black, then there is another flat lesion on the other side that is brownish-tan and asymmetric.  Everything is flat, no raised parts, no symptoms except no more periods at age 44.  I have a very tiny amount of brownish discharge and have to wear a panty liner daily.

I had laser treatment 20 years ago for HPV.  My Paps have been normal every year, and my doctor said that I am totally cleared from HPV, which I thought stayed with you forever, but he says that some people clear it.  He also thinks I have Asherman's syndrome and that could explain the discharge and not ever becoming pregnant and no periods.

Anyways, he kept saying for the past few years that I have pigmentation down there and it is probably due to laser treatment.  However, this last time, he said he wanted to have it biopsied, that there have been some changes.

I had the biopsy done Monday, 7/21/08, and I do not have results back yet. However, my gynecologist is going away this weekend, and the results may not be back before he leaves.  I want a second opinion because I am so terrified that it could be melanoma or something.

Every site I have been to keeps bringing up melanoma when I do a search for vulvar dark pigment changes.  I am trying to find something that supports my doctor saying that laser treatment can make the vulva change in color; it's like swirls and other brownish uneven spots down there. Is it true that I could also have a benign condition from laser treatment in the past? I can't find any comparison pictures of anything benign.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

Seriously terrified

Sometimes there is vulvitis atrophy - due to lack of estrogen.

I had urinary infections frequently for a few years.  These were due to my vulva/labia area thinning badly, and whitening and made worse by sexual intercourse.  I had been menopousal for 10 years.  Many doctors just not realising the problem, I had to tolerate this problem.  Then one day a doctor gave me ovestin tablet orally and ovestin cream vaginally and he said to take them forever.  After 6 months, I felt it is not right to be forever taking them so I saw another doctor.   I had a pelvic scan and they said there is a cervical mass in the cervix - a small one.  I saw a couple of gyneacologists and they think I need monitoring on any growth.  But in the meantime, they think I need HRT as I have severe Oesteoporosis.  So I continued to take HRT for 6 months.  Of courst the cervical mass (small fibroid) grew slightly.  On consultation with the gyneacologist, we decided to have the uterus/cervix removed.  Then I had a hysteretomy..  (But then after that had post op problem due to bad care.  I took 3 months to recover).  There is no malignancy on the growth. I had been advised to look forward.  Yes I have been trying to look forward.  I am on estrogen pill and needing some hormone cream to be applied on the vulva area.  So far so good.  There is the scare of cancer from HRT and I have been advised to have regular checkup.

Would be good to hear from other people who have similar experiences.

Hi, something just doesnt feel right down there, I am rather sore and tender around my vaginal opening and when I had a look in the mirror I noticed that the left side of my vaginal opening is really red and sore looking and it looks swollen! the left labia is bigger than the right, I cannot feel any lumps or fluid it just feels like normal fat but then every so often I have a tingly sensation in my labia.I'm scared to go to the doctors so I've decided to go to my local GUM clinic and get checked for all STI's and bacteria infections first. Should be going this week. How did it go at the doctors for you??
