Vulvar vestibulitis or vaginismus

Hello,
I have been treated for one of these conditions with graduated dilators and anti-fungal cream (massage of afflicted area 20 minutes twice daily) for over a year.  My condition developed from a combination of yeast infections and "aggressive" penetration, which seems right to me, so the biofeedback method should work.  Despite the doctor's opinion of my progress, I still cannot have regular intercourse.  I was not as diligent as I should have been because I simply cannot find 40 mins every day to play with myself!  On my last visit to the gynecologist, I was told I can now use a vibrator before intercourse, and definitely attempt intercourse if I don't want things to regress.  My question is: would a metal vibrator have an advantage over the rubber kind?  Cooling appliances are used with laser treatment to reduce or prevent inflammation, so would an ice-cold vibrator help with my condition (i.e. "turn off" the sensitive cells normally irritated by touch)?

   COLD COMPRESSES HAD A SOOTHING AFFECT FOR MY LADY.
NO HELP WHAT SO EVER IN HAVING A NEAR NORMAL SEX LIFE.
LOCAL CREAMS TO DEADEN THE AREA WERE NOT EFFECTIVE.
I WAS PATIENT, AND SUPPORTIVE 5 YEARS. I WAS HAPPY WITH
ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF SEXUAL SATIFICATION,OPEN TO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY LOVE WAS STRONG. SEX WAS A BIG AND IMPORTANT PART OF OUR RELATIONSHIP.THE MAIN TROUBLE IS THAT MY GIRL LOST ALL INTEREST IN SEX ONCE SHE COULD NOT HAVE INTERCOUSE. SHE COULD NOT HAVE ORGASMS EVEN WHEN SHE PERFORMED MASTRBATION.
SHE WAS HIGHLY SEXUAL BEFORE THIS DISEASE AND IT WENT
TOTALLY TO ZIP. WE ARE NO LONGER TOGETHER. THIS CONDITION I BELIEVE WAS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS.
I AM NOT THE ONE WHO CALLED IT QUITS. I BELIEVE THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE CAUSES MANY PHSYCOLOGICAL PROBLEMS FOR WOMEN ALSO. SO FAR A CURE OR EVEN A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO THE SEXUAL ASPECT HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. THE ONES , AND I'VE RESEARCH EXTENSIVLEY, OFFERED ARE NOT NEAR TO A SOLUTION. THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM THAT UNTIL RECENTLY THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IGNORED.MANY REGULAR FAMILY DOCTORS DO NOT EVEN KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT IT. SO MUCH MORE RESEACH IS NEEDED.
