Water Break?

I am 38 weeks pregnant. On Sunday morning (1:00 a.m.) I took my usual trip to the bathroom to pee. I returned to bed, and then felt a contraction. Mind you, I had been having contractions for days straight prior to this incident. Suddenly, I felt something warm trickling down my inner thigh. I felt my underwear and realized it was soaked in a 4 inch diameter. The fluid was odorless and colorless. I thought for sure my water had broken, because I knew it was not pee. I went to the E.R. that morning at 10:00 a.m. The nurse said it was not amniotic fluid, yet had no other explanation. I am fairly concerned. I have heard of women breaking their water, but the baby's head acts as a "plug." Thus, the leaking stops or is subtle. I am 1 1/2 cm dilated and 70 % effaced. Any thoughts on what it could have been?

That happened to me with my first. After a few days of the odd little trickle,I went to Er and they said it wasn't amnio fluid.Even though I was only 34 weeks I wouldn't leave ,I knew something wasn't right.I walked around until I felt some more come out, and I quickly lay on the bed with my legs in the air and called the nurse. All of a sudden she changed her tune..it was amnio fluid and I was 3 cm dialated. They put me on antibiotics because the baby could be exposed to infection with the sac leaking and I had my DD the next day. No need to worry, but I stress the importance of getting it checked out again..just in case your membranes have ruptured.Take care, and good luck!

The test the nurse did is fine. And she followed all precautions and checked your cervix. If you had broken your bag of waters it would have been indicated and your cervix would also have changed and started opening. I know the L&D nurses can be frustrating, especially when they send you home, but they will be there and very supportive when you need them. They also wouldn't have let you go home if there were any chance you were at risk. So try not to worry.

Please i advice you to stay near your doctor because the baby might be coming anytime. I also broke my water on 13 October and miscarried on 15 October. They were telling me the same as they told you. But i was so sure that it wasnt pee. WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST

I'm assuming that they had you give them a urine sample or swabbed you? They actually test the wet spot if big enough or your urine for its ph or they look for ferning under a microscop and thats how they tell if its amniotic fluid or not

I knwo it can be frustrating, when I DID have a slow leak with my #2 I didnt even know because I had been having mysterious scentless/colorless wet spots randomly that eventually I learned was just veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery watery discharge. Then I DID have a leak and didnt realize till eventually I had a huge wet spot and the contractions kept coming... and thats a good thing to remember.. if your water DOES break or leak you will get more and more regualar contractions

just though. When i had 3rd daughter i kept "leaking" so much so had to wear pads(it was a horrible green colour)and they checked and found my hind waters were leaking very slowly. Again just another thought, but if it has not happened again i would say you are ok.Good luck,is this your first?.

Yes, this is indeed my first child. It's so frustrating. I guess I feel overly paranoid, and it doesn't help when nurses treat you like an idiot.

I had the same prob when i was preg she used a ph strip and said dat it wont the fluid but i knew i didnt pee on myself either so maybe it was just a lot of extra discharge! Dont worry youll hav a baby soon!

It's strange. When the hospital did the test, they only did the Litmus Paper test. She made me cough and proceeded to insert a 2 inch thin strip of paper into my vagina. The nurse held it there for less than a second before removing it. She never tested my urine, nor swabbed me. She checked my cervix with her fingers and informed me that if my water had broken more fluid would have come out after the "cervical" exam. None did. I don't know how accurate her testing was.

If you continue to notice clear fluid leaking, then call the Doc or go in for a check to make sure it isn't your water. If it is, then labor should be starting very soon. Meanwhile, avoid tub baths. If your water has broken, you will be at risk of infection.
If they checked and said it was not amniotic fluid, it was probably just a slight loss of bladder control. This is VERY common in pregnancy, especially this late in the game. The baby puts so much pressure that you can have some tinkling;) without being aware. Nothing to be embarrassed about, it happens.
Not long now!! Good luck and best wishes on your L&D!!

perhaps after you had pee, then lay down the baby pressed on a little bit of the bladder that still had urine in,bit like incontinence. Just a thought!.
