Weight Gain During Pregnancy

by doaks, Jan 08, 2007 12:00AM
Hi all!  I am 21 weeks prego with #2.  With baby #1 I gained almost 80 lbs so I was a little nervous with this one.  Up unitl 18 weeks I hadn't gained anything - I guess being sick all the time will do that to ya. Anyway, over the last 5 weeks I have gained 8-9 lbs.  I really haven't changed my eating habbits, although did eat a bit more junk over the holidays.  I was just wondering if you all thought that this was catch up weight or if you think I am going to continue gaining like this for the rest of the preganncy.  They say by now you should have gained from 12-15 lbs. so I am under, but it happened so quickly.  It took me a year and a half to lose from the first baby and have always been very selfconcious about my weight.  Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the advice, but I am not overeating.  A few extras over the holidays but thats it.  I am a very healthy person, in fact right now I am snacking on slices of red pepper and celery.

If you drink soda, replace it with water. That ONE thing helped me tremendously.  I stayed active and only gained 15 lbs with my last pregnancy - no sickness to help :)

I would just watch what you eat.  With both of my pg's I gained 17lbs total.  First one I was diabetic so I had to cut out a lot of carbs and sugars.  If you are very concerned, see if you can talk with a dietician that will help you with what to eat..and I am not promoting a diet just a healthy meal plan that you are comfortable with.  Remember they say you only need an extra 300 calories a day to supply the baby.

Some things that are good for you--peanuts (no carbs), I would eat cream of broccoli soup and a chicken breast a lot of times.

Just an idea for you.  I hope it all goes well--and yes now that the holidays are over--more than likely you won;t have as many temptations to over eat.

i gained 60 lbs with my daughter, i didnt gain any weight until i was 6 months, so i know i gained a lot each week after that, dont worry so much....the charts that doctors use are rediculous anyway, they wanted me to gain 10 lbs in one week when i was only 15 or 16 weeks, your body knows what to do...
