What are my chances of being pregnant?

Due to some complications with moving and getting my birth control pill perscription switched over to another pharmacy, I missed the first week of my pills. (I have been on BC pills for years now but just missed the first week of this cycle.) I started taking them the 2nd week as normal, but didn't make up the first week's missed ones because that usually makes me sick.

My husband and I had unprotected sex at the end of the 2nd week of my cycle. (After 1 week of regular pill taking.) What are the chances that I am pregnant? (Just FYI I was on Kariva and just started taking Desogen that second week. Both are low-dose pills.)

Also, should I keep taking the pill the rest of this week? (I am supposed to get my period next week.)

Thanks to any wisdom anyone can offer on this topic!!

Yes I would keep taking the pills. I would assume that the chances are low, but anything is possible. No way to tell but time!

If I'm not mistaken - I shouldn't be I took BC for almost 10 years- if you miss more than 3 pills in a row, especially the first row, start a new pack at day 1, it will change your cycle.  You need to use a back up method for that pack of pills because you had 1 full week of no protection, you could have ovulated in the 2nd week because the pill isn't instant.  Because your cycle may be off this month I would take an early pregnancy test in about 2 weeks, to check.  Because of the change in cycle and the hormone flux you have caused, you could still get a 'period' and be pregnant, if you get your AF, retest a week after it finishes.  It sucks that you have waste $15 - $20 on Prg. Tests but it's better safe than sorry.  Next time you miss more than 3 days make sure you start over from day 1 of a new pack. And use a back up for the first 2 weeks.  Good luck.

Thanks for the repies everyone. Yeah, the fact that it is a low dose made me think about being pregnant even more-but the fact that I probably ovulated that 1st week I had no pills makes me think I am probably not pregnant. BUT, like you say, you never know! My husband and I are fine with it either way, we had planned on waiting another year or two to try to have kids, but if one wants to make an early apperance- so be it! :)

If next week I have a weird period I will test-it has been the same for years, even when I have oopsies with the pills, which isn't very often.

What are the very first symptoms of pregnancy, just so I will be on the lookout?

because you took a week's worth of pills, you should be protected. yes keeping taking your pills, finish off the pack!! the only thing that worries me is that it is a lo dose pill. if it were regular strength, I would say that as long as you took the whole pack, on time everyday, you should be fine. and you would be protected after 7 consecutive pills.

Anytime you have unprotected sex it can result in pregnancy.  I've always been told you can make up a couple of pills but anymore than that it bc is ineffective.  I'd contact your Dr.

symtoms of early pregnancy are the same as pms so unless anything is happening that is out of the ordinary, it's very hard to say what you should be on the lookout for.
