What are the chances I will have another set of triplets?

by Love123, Jan 25, 2006 12:00AM
When I was 19 I got pregnant for the first time. I soon found out that I was having triplets. But I miscarried one baby. I got pregnant again and came out with one. What are the chances I could have another set of multiples. It was all natural!!!

Does triplets run in the family or on your husband/boyfirends side of the family?  Chances are higher then.  Twins and triplets run on my moms side of the family but none on my dads.  And on my husbands side twins run in the family.  And then again sometimes its just luck!

Actually, if it runs on her or her mother's side, the chance of multiples goes up too.  Some women are susceptible of releasing two or three eggs at a time and this could produce twins/triplets/etc.  Twins run on my mom's side (she's a fraternal twin (two eggs were released)) so I have to be careful too.

Does this mean that I release two to three eggs everytime I have my period. I really want another set. That first pregnancy I had I only came out with one son. I miscarried, and one twin died about an hour after birth. Too many weird complications. Could birth controll make you have multiples? Does anyone know?

If your son was an identical twin, then no you did not release two eggs, your egg was fertilized by one sperm and the one egg divided into two eggs sharing the same DNA.  Fraternal twins come from two eggs being released and both being fertilized and therefore having fraternal twins can run in the family.  There is no evidence birth control pills increase/decrease the chance of multiples.  Go to this website to help you answer some questions about increasing your chance of multiples.  It's a hit and miss situation, so unless you're determined to get fertility medicine or something along those lines, there's no for sure answer.  Good luck!
