What can be done to reduce pain and bleeding during menstruation?

I've always had really difficult periods. I get severe cramps that don't respond to normal doses of naproxen or ibuprofen. It's only if I take 4 Advils that the pain lessens, but that upsets my stomach and digestive system (I have IBS). I've tried exercise and taking pain meds before my period starts but that doesn't seem to be helping either, and I don't know what else can be done. On top of that, I have SUPER heavy bleeding for the first three days of my period, so much so that I leak through an ultra tampon every hour. I've been investigated for a blood clotting disorder and the tests came back saying that my blood clotting factors are too high for a diagnosis of an actual disorder and treatment, even though they're quite low compared to the general population. I went to a gynecologist to find out what can be done and got a prescription of tranexamic acid which worked great in reducing bleeding! For the first time in my life I didn't have to worry about leaking or sneaking off to a bathroom every hour with a tampon and pad during all the busyiness of the day. It was great for the first period, and good for the second, but this third time it doesn't seem to be working at all. I tried the pill and it gave me bad side effects (and I still had very heavy, painful periods while on it) so my doctor took me off. I also tried the shot, and it was fine while I was on it but afterwards, I had such a horrible period that blood was literally gushing out and I had to go the ER and get blood transfusions. My obgyn doesn't want to give me an IUD because of the risks it might pose to me due to my bleeding risk and my connective tissue disorder. I don't know of any other options I can try and it's so upsetting to me because I lose a whole week every month and even my obgyn hasn't had any other ideas. What else can be done? Even really expensive or unusual ideas because honestly I don't know how much longer I can live with this.

First of all you are not alone. What has really helped me is to eliminate gluten and oats from my diet. Be patient. It took a few moths before I felt any change. I have now been glutenfree for nearly a year. I still get cramps but I dont have to take painkillers. My IBS problems is nearly gone and my mood is much better. Before I had moodswings every period. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'll give it a try and report back in a few months if I notice a difference!

i understand your trauma , its what i go through as well, my cycles can be crazy, advil doesnt help me at times either, you can also try castor oil packs a day or two before and when you are on cycle, it help relax and detox fabulously. :)  try heat on low back, acupuncture or self accupressure, start eating light foods to cleanse 3 days before cycle,  best of luck miss
