I have to have a hysteroscopy next week to investigate an ultrasound that showed a heterogeneous endometrium.
They've told me that it will be done in-office and that no anesthetic will be used, because the injections to the cervix to administer the topical are as painful as the procedure itself and usually do little to prevent pain during the hysteroscopy. As far as pain management goes, they told me to take 800mg of ibuprofen before the procedure.
They've also told me they will most likely have to dilate my cervix with small metal tubes before they can insert the hysteroscope, and that this may be more difficult for me because I have never had children.
However, no one seems to actually be able to tell me WHAT this will feel like or how much each step will hurt. Can someone who has had an unanesthetized in-office hysteroscopy please walk me through what you felt at each step, particularly the cervical dilation? I feel like I can handle anything, even if it's bad, if I'm mentally prepared for what's going to happen.
