I went to a local health department and they gave me my mirena for free... so i don't know where your getting your facts and figures, but i only paid a donation of whatever i wanted to donate. I have tried other birth control (pills, patch) and didn't like the hormonal effects at all! I love the Mirena, its so light with the hormones it easy to deal with.  I still get mild cramps sometimes and i haven't had a period in 2 months and im perfectly healthy. Its actually normal to experience less menstruating with mirena because they give it a light dose of time released hormones to sooth the cramping that you experence. Some friends of mine stopped getting they're periods in general unrelated to birth control. They're doctor said it was normal and not to worry. Also if you have a very active lifestyle its not unexpected to miss one or two of your menstrual flows. The paragard does not have any hormones so cramping get worse and menstrual flow is increased, but it last for 7-10 years. The paragard is made with copper, so make sure your not allergic before you get it. It doesn't hurt anymore than a pap  its inserted the same way you get those exams.

does it ever need to be changed? does it hurt? sounds interesting, I've been thinking of different birth controls after I have my baby.

Mirena is for 5 years and I think they have another one that is for 10 years.  Just like my doctor told me everyone's body responds to it differently.  Something to research. Good luck with having the baby.

it is on the higher end of the market for price, but think about it, you pay for it once every five years....so, $80 for a five year "dont get preggers" solution.....i think it kinda evens out. and most insurance companies will pay for it, especially if it is inserted right after giving birth......ok not right after, but as soon as your OB would insert it.

I have Morena as well. The bleeding will eventually stop...I have stopped getting my period all togeather..Going on 4 months now. The doctor said it is normal. I have experienced Migraines since it was inserted...I don't know if it is related???? But I love mine. I feel it is more effective than the pill. The pill is subject to Human error...which is unavoidable

an IUD is a plastic form that is inserted into your uterous post pregnancy. it releases pregnancy hormones to confuse your body into not "dropping" eggs. If you get pregnant while the divice is inserted, it will most likely be a tubal pregnancy (meaning that the fetus is either in your falopian tubes or a "floating" fetus; meaning that the fetus and sac are actually outside the uterous.) our ovaries and fallopian tubes are not actually connected, meaning that there is always a chance of eggs not floating down the tubes and entering the uterus.
IUD's are a good idea only if you dont have a personal history of pelvic inflammation, or excessive scarring. If you have a problem with your bleeding, or have a history of homonal imbalances during pregnancy or otherwise, you need to discuss the risks with your doctor.

You can check out www.mirena.com.  It is this little T shaped plastic things that your doctor inserts into your uterus. You have to have at least one child to have it inserted.  It releases a hormone everyday that makes your body think you are pregnant.  I have it. I have been experiencing alot of bleeding which I am hoping goes away very soon.  Every one is different.  My friend has it and since the day she got it inserted she has not bleed once. She has had it for 2 years now. Even though I am having complications (that don't bother me too much) I am going to give it 3 months and see what happens. I think it is just something you have to try to see how it works for you, just as any other birth control method.  I suggest going to the website and then talking to your doctor.  I found that www.mirena.com was helpful before I even talked to my doctor about it.
