by jazzydeb, May 04, 2007 12:00AM
Hi I am 43 years old and for the last year my periods have been  painful ie: cramps... for the last month I have been spotting every day some days the blood is dark and others it is bright.
what is gong on with me? when I went to the doc about the heavy bleeding and big clots they say that I am pre-menopause...I thought I was supposed to not have periods...I havve been under a lot of stress as well. I have my tubes tied...is there anything I can do at home to stop the spotting????? it is really gettin old.

I really don't know what to do to stop the spotting. I'm 36 and have had 2 a month periods for almost 7 years with spotting. I haven't been forceful enough with the dr's to get to the bottom of it. But I do suggest it for you and I'm going to at my next appt in June. I've read that it is hormonal fluctuations and sometimes you have a lot of bleeding for a while then nothing. I am looking forward to the last, even though my husband really wants another child-I had preterm labor at 20 weeks and was told it could happen even earlier with another pregnancy. I really do feel for you and if you get some answers, please, share with me. I feel like I should take stock into kotex.LOL. Anyhow, best wishes to you.

The rule of thumb is any period that lasts longer than 7 days or any bleeding in between periods should be evaluated by a doctor. Bleeding in between your periods is not a normal sign of pre-menopause. I went to the doctor after having one abnormal period and there is a chance I have uterine cancer and there are two masses in my ovaries (being evaluated now)

Oh, I forgot to tell you that I had paps, us (internal) and basic bloodwork (thyroid, etc) and everything came back normal. That's why I said to stick with the drs bc they just pushed me to the side after the basics were normal.
