What is going on with missing periods?

I had my daughter two years ago.  I breastfed up until a few weeks ago, and she is now completely weaned.

My first period returned in December, a few months before her second birthday.  After that, I spotted about a month later.  Then nothing until May, when I got a REAL period.  I'm on the mini pill and skip the last four days so I can cycle, but this time it didn't happen.  I know I ovulated 14 days into my cycle due to painful breasts, vaginal discharge, and all around just knowing my body.  So the time I thought I would menstruate came and went, and it should have started 10 days ago.  I've had cramps on and off and it seems like it's about to start and doesn't.  I know breastfeeding does crazy things to hormones but I truly felt like I was starting to be pretty regular.  Now I am cranky, severely bloated, retaining water, gaining weight, sad as f*** and nauseous more often than usual.
I haven't taken a PT yet but plan on it.  I'm honestly scared to because we aren't trying to conceive yet, if at all.
Is this a normal thing, to ovulate and not get a period?
