What is going on with my period?

Okay, so I was on birth control since I was 13 and about 6 months ago(I'm 21 now) I decided to stop taking it.  I'm not sexually active, I was on birth control to regulate my periods and try to make them lighter.  So, I didn't have a period for 4 months and then two days ago I started my period. It's really heavy, I'm going through a pad an hour and I have blood clots and bad cramps.  Is this normal???

I forgot to ask: what size pads?  If they're regular, then go up to the overnights or something.

That's way too heavy.  Go see a doctor.
