What to do for a yeast infection?

Hello everyone, this is my situation. I am a 17 year old female and I have been experiencing symptoms of a swollen labia, itching, somewhat burning when urinating, sensitive labia and clitoris (I believe what it's called). I went to the doctor after 3 days of these symptoms. She said I had a yeast infection or vaginitis. She prescribed me a topical cream and one pill taken orally. The swelling and nearly all of my symptoms went away but I noticed I started having a yellowish light brown discharge. I've been wearing a light panty liner for it. It does not look cottage cheese like but more mucous like would be the best way to describe it. I called my doctor again and she prescribed me another pill (just one). The discharge has not gone away since taking the second pill but the swelling to my labia has come back and I notice the itching and the stinging type pain again. I feel like I'm beginning to head back towards my symptoms I had in the beginning. I have not been sexually active and have been wearing mostly cotton underwear. I have been using the topical cream twice a day except for the last couple of days. I am very confused why it isn't going away and is actually stressing me out because I hope I don't have something more serious. I appreciate any help or suggestions I get. Please help! Thank you!

If you are sure it is yeast, there are over the counter products, but with the discharge you are describing, I have to wonder if there is something else going on. Try the OTC and if it doesnt help, I would see another doctor.

Hello!
It sounds like you're having quite a time! I had a recurring cycle of antibiotic use (for sinus infections) and then I get a yeast infection -every time. If this is a yeast infection, it is a doozy. I was able to treat mine with Monistat 7 (7 day, not 5 day kind) and rebuilt the natural bacterial flora in my gut by eating yogurt for two weeks or using probiotics. The health bacteria keep the body's internal yeast levels in check, but if they are destroyed, the yeast goes nuts and can cause an infection anywhere (especially the mouth, genitals, or armpits -anywhere moist and warm.)
Like nickie said, call your Dr again. Be sure to get checked for bacterial AND yeast infections (you can have both). It won't harm anything to start the Monistat now -best case you'll get a jump on being rid of it, -worst case, it won't make it worse...Good luck...~MM

Sounds like you could definitely have a reoccuring infection. I think you definitely need to see the doctor again and tell them that your symptoms are coming back full force. Have you tried anything for over the counter medication such as Monistat? It doesn't really sound like a yeast infection and your doctor most have though it was bacterial vaginosis and that is why they prescribed the pills and lotion. Definitely call your doctor again and see what they have to say.
