What's the soonest a doctor can confirm a pregnancy?

by caligal77, Jun 21, 2007 12:00AM
Ok this is driving me crazy. I didn't know what to think when i started my period 12 days early. So, i typed in on my internet browser "early period" and all of this stuff about implantation bleeding pops up. So of course i run out and get a pregnancy test and it's negative then i figure i did it too soon and it was a regular store brand, not the "ept". I run out a few days later and get two EPT's. I tried to wait to my next period to retest but i didn't and of course those were negative over two day apart testing. So, now because i have no patience and now i'm becoming a little worried about maybe something is really wrong with me because i spotted again very slightly. I made a doctors appointment. My question is, how early can they confirm a pregnancy with a ultrasound? Just come quick info   got my period May 29 stopped period on June 2 and my husband didn't withdrawl on the 3rd of June, spotting occurred June 15th stopped on the 19th and spotted again  on the 20th....I've never needed to use a pad or tampon because it was sooo light. What are the odds? I'm i just a paranoid freak...i start thinking, oh god i probably have this or that. Do you think they could confirm a pregnancy with a ultrasound if i were about 3 weeks preggers?

No, early u/s is of NO use.  Until about 5, but really 6 weeks.  At 5weeks, they would see a sac, and at 6, a tiny bean w/a flicker indicating the hb.  At 5weeks, and spotting, my dr. would only run blood work.  Blood work will be your most telling tool at this point.

Would a blood test still be too early to detect or confirm a pregnancy at only 3 weeks? From what i've read, the hpt and blood test aren't any different.
