Why am I spotting between periods?

Hi, I'm 17 and I've been bleeding ever so slightly between periods - little strings of blood incorporated in my ovum, only noticeable when I wipe. This has been going on for a few weeks and is the first time this has happened. I haven't been using any kind of contraceptive pills, and am not having any sexual activity so I can't find much out on the Internet. I'm starting to think that something funny is going on with my hymen (who knows, maybe it's self-destructing because of how much of a virgin I am, hah)

Even if your parents ARE very traditional and religious, the health of their daughter will be first and foremost on their minds. This may be a sensitive......perhaps even an embarrassing subject to discuss with your mother, if something is wrong, it needs to be found and treated now.

As to what they "might suspect," with your permission/consent or your request, the doctor can assure your mother that you are, still, indeed, a virgin.

I know this may be very difficult for you, but when it comes to your health, you must speak up.

I wish you the very best

Light bleeding/spotting between periods is very common and is usually just a small amount of blood from your last period that did not get expelled. It is usually kind of brown in color as it's "older" blood. If what you are seeing now is fresh (bright red) blood, I urge you to see a gynecologist. I would urge you to see the doctor either way to simply rule out any problem. If you use tampons during your period, there is some possibility they may be irritating your hymen. I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but only a doctor can give you a diagnosis.

It's definitely fresh blood and I don't use tampons. Getting an appointment will mean telling my mom about it first, which I'm a little worried about (I have very traditional religious parents, who knows what they'll suspect. yay)

Thanks, that narrows it down :)
