I am having a hysterectomyHysterectomy Hysterectomy - series March 6, 2007 and I am only 33 years old! i am very nervous and want some advice on what to expect afterwards. i am having my uterus removed and one ovary and possibly my cervix. Any advice will b welcomed.
My mom had one around the age of 40. This was about 10yrs ago, so the procedure is different now. She wasnt able to really move that much. But I know a womanWomen's way who had one done last year. She didnt feel too bad after it. I think she might have said they went through her belly button??? SO it wasnt as serious. She went back to work shortly after. She did have some hot flashes though for awhile. I think she felt pretty good though. Best of luck to you!! Just try and relax, I know that is easier said then done. Any type of surgery is scary.
Just had a friend who went through the procedure. They removed the organs laproscopically so she was better much quicker. One thing to remember is that even when you start feeling better...rest for as long as the doctor tells you. One friend felt better 2 days later -but was advised by her doc to rest for a week--and she got out of bed to open a can of something and she started bleeding pretty badly. She said it was hard to just rest because she felt so good. :) Good luck with your surgery.
My friend had a lap hysterectomy with just the uterus removed. Her biggest complaint was gas after she went home. Her dr suggested simethicone 125 mg tablets (take 2) every 6 hours around the clock until she had a bowel movement. It can make you have diarrhea, too, which made it easier for her and less fear in the bathroom-sorry if tmi. A heating pad to the stomach also helped her along with walking around a bit.
The recovery wasn't too bad at all. I stayed in the hospital just one night. The worst of the pain after lasted just a few weeks. But was in a little pain for up to 6 weeks. But it wasn't anything too bad...didn't interfere with my life.
Overall the whole thing wasn't too bad at all!
Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure everything will go great!
