Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

I have been on yaz for about a year now, I have also suffered from lack of a sex drive and i just recently noticed that I have been having post nasal drip, and symptoms of a sinus infection for the past two months.  I was treated with medication for a sinus infection but am still suffering with symptoms.  I have read that yaz can cause upper respiratory problems, I am wondering if it may be the cause, and if anyone else has had this problem? If so, I think it may be time to get off yaz.
Thanks for your feedback!

One last thing...just started noticing the facial discoloration/pigmentation changing...and I have really good skin. Didn't know what it was - thought maybe dry patches in winter - but now know it must be the Yaz.
Also experienced severe anxiety, anger, moodiness and irritability as well. What a nightmare. Glad I woke up.

I can't believe what I am reading...I'm 47 years old, in great health and have been blaming all this on myself...went on Yz 2 months ago and feel like all of you. Can't get out of bed, depressed, crying, (just lost 20 lbs. and thankfully have not gained any of it back- yet), heart palipitations, etc. This site is such a blessing - I knew something was wrong but I thought it was just hormonal adjustment. My doctor wanted me to give it 3 months, but I couldn't do it - I went to him today and this will be the last pill I take. I know it's hard for all of us - people love to tell us it's all in our heads. It isn't. This is real and this pill should be taken off the market permanently.
Good luck and blessings to all.

I got married almost 4 years ago and at the same time I had my right ovary/fallopian tube removed due to recurring ovarian cysts.  I was 24 at the time.  My doctor wanted to protect my left ovary and continue me on birth control.  I have been on every BC pill possible and then she finally gave me YAZ.  I loved it at first!  I had no side effects, at least that I thought were caused by YAZ at the time.  Had 1-2 day periods-life was great.  But my newly wedded husband couldn't understand why I never wanted to have sex, we thought it had to do with the missing ovary.  Then we couldn't understand why sex was painful, we thought it had to do with possible scar tissue.  So I told my OB/GYN and she thought it was part from surgery but also could be bladder inflammation/urinary tract infection.  I would have continous dull headaches and my legs would ache at night. I didn't have weight gain but always felt fatigued.  I also started feeling nervous in social situations and could cry watching commercials for no reason.  I tried Ativan as needed but thenwas given Zoloft.  I felt better with Zoloft but I wasn't happy that I had to put all these pills in my body.  So I finally weaned myself off of everything and was completely done with meds by Christmas 2009. So far I feel 100% better, all side effects are finally gone in only a month.  I do have plevic cramping but I think it could be from my body trying to get to normal. I see my GYN next week so we'll see.  Long story short-I feel better with no medication!  It only took 4 years to figure it out, I thank my husband for putting up with me, maybe now we can enjoy sex again!

Thanks to all of you who have posted about the minor side effects of Yaz!!  I am so thankful to find this site!  I just got married and want nothing to do with sex which really puts a wrench in the honeymoon!  I have been on Yaz for years, and couldn't figure out why i was compulsive eating, had NO sex drive, insomnia, my mind was always racing, horrible mood swings, and i was always anxious!  I am calling my doctor ASAP!  Thank you again!

I was 12 or 13 years old when I started YAZ, because I would have my period nonstop for months.  The longest was 3 and it was a heavy flow.  My doctor told me I was anemic and so she put me on YAZ.  This not only ended my long periods but also stopped my gut wrenching cramps and brakeouts.  I always thought that YAZ was the answer, but then about two years ago I started noticing a MAJOR weight gain!! I mean I am only 17 and very active in sports! I went from 140 to 183.  Now be in mind that I am 5'10 so it doesnt look that bad on me, but I hate it. Also, I have been getting excruciating migranes that have almost put me in the hospital because of the nonstop pain.  I can never sleep through the whole night and always feel exhausted the next day.  Before and after my period, I so nauseous and dizzy that I have to sit down for a few minutes and let it pass, before I can get up.  I also have been depressed for a long time.  It is mostly off and on, but when it hits me, it hits hard and I find myself crying for no reason.  I just took one of my pills tonight and then decided to Google this.  I am so glad that I did, because I thought I was the only one experiencing this and glad to hear others peoples stories. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, y'all don't know how much this helps.  I will stop YAZ as soon as possible!! :)
