Yeast Infection or bacterial vaginosis?

I was recently diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis by my doctor who in turn prescribed some vaginal gel that slows the prodution of the bacteria.  On the 4th day of taking the medicine, i started to get a chunky white discharge but the yellow "fishy" smelling discharge from the bacterial infection was gone.  It has now been 3 days since i last used the gel and now i am getting a thicker, cottage cheeese like discharge, elspecially during intercourse.  Do i now have a yeast infection and if i treat it will i get the bacterial vaginosis again?  How do i balance myself out again?

i get bacterial vaginosis alot-its very common, the gel is probley metrogel- it works great but you should have been told that anti-biotics can cause a yeast infection and just eating yogurt with active cultures will solve this problem.  The way my dr explained it to me is if there is an odor of fishlike  than its an infection.  good luck and i hope this helps

I have also had many problems with this for AGES.  The smell (and your doctor's diagnosis) both indicate it's bacterial vaginosis.  My immediate relief has been found in the form of a homeopath.  A more expensive remedy but works immediately and by the time you have paid out for so many prescriptions with the doc you will probably have made a saving! 3 X Pulsatilla 30c (available over the counter in most pharmacy's homeopath range)  over 3 days worked for me, however you should get diagnosed by a trained homeopath as remedy is based on emotional causes as well as physical. Bonus = no internal examination needed :-)

This does sound like a yeast infection now, but you'll want to see your doctor again to be sure.  I tend to be pro-natural remedy, and OTC remedies are expensive.  This will sound odd, but a tampon dipped in plain yogurt (that says it contains active yogurt cultures) worn for a few hours (switch it for a new one...) for one or two days works wonders on balancing things out.
