a small tear/cut on my daughters vagina

by crzyinkeywest, Jun 14, 2007 12:00AM
My daughter is four and last night while giving her a bath she complained that her vagina hurt. After inspecting the area i found a small tear/cut on the inside of her lips next to her labia. The cut is small, however, some skin is torn off in a section the size of her pinky nail.  It almost looks like she cut herself while wiping.  I am not sure how to treat something like that to help it heal.  Should I take her to the docter?  At this point it does not look infected, no discharge, and no odor..What other things should I be watching for?
The one side of the lip is swollen, but she is small and I can imagine the cut is painful in the area that it is in...however it is not bleeding..any idea's ?

Give her a baking soda bath. It helpd relieve some of the symptoms. Little kids can get itchy and irritated and will scratch to the point of tearing. To help prevent it in the future, have her change from wet clothes such as a bathing suit. Sitting in a wet bathing suit for long periods of time can cause yeast infections, which leads to scratching.
