acne with ortho-lo

by Finbar6, Nov 02, 2005 12:00AM
ive been on ortho-lo for a year. i thought it would help me with pimples too, but it really hasn't seemed to do anything- however, i am a stressed out person most of the time. is there a better bcp that helps a lot with pimples- like yasmin or regular ortho?? i don't want to have clear skin if these other pills increase moodiness, weight gain etc. but i really want clear skin

See your gyn for the best advice as to what bc types work well for acne.  It may be that none of them work well for you, and you might want to see a dermatologist for other acne treatment methods.

Definately discuss it with your doctor...and if there is another B/C that would help with the acne it might be a higher dose of hormones than what you need.  Usually if you go to a dermitologist they might prescribe minocyline or tetracyline that does not work with B/C (Yes I know in a previous post someone said antibiotics do not affect B/C...then why do the manufacturers still put the pamplet on the manufacturing bottles that say they do? And why do MDs tell you they do? And why do pharmacists dispinse B/C saying not to take antibiotics with it?).  But they most likely could give you a cream or wash that would help with it...have you ever tried over the counter cetaphil (comes in a wash and cream)?  I use to use minocyline and retin-A cream when I was younger and most of my acne is gone now except for the occasional break out but I use the cetaphil now and dont have any problems with acne.

What are you currently using for a cleanser and cream?  I am currently on microgestrin...generic form of Loestrin (but basically the same thing) and it totally helps with acne.  My dose had to be increased due to breakthrough bleeding so I think this is the root of my unexplained mood swings.  Hopefully you will find something that works for you!
